Does Puppy contain any non-free software?

#1 Post by gameboyab »

Puppy Linux isn't endorsed by the FSF because it recommends non-free software, (such as Adobe Flash) but does a Vanilla Slacko or Lucid Puppy contain any [Proprietary software]?
Not running as root is the cause of my inferiority complex.

Probably, if the vanilla kernel is used, and none of the proprietary binary 'blobs' are removed.

I had to answer my own question!

Flash, some modem drivers Barry adds, GetFlash, nVidia drivers, Opera and extra firmware are proprietary. Firefox and Seamonkey are considered non-free because of the non-free plug-ins and add-ons they recommend.

Plus, as you said, there are binary blobs in the kernel.

Hope it is okay to ask this:

How do the FOSS supporters look at Youtube then
if they don't allow any such programs to be in their OS?
I use Google Search on Puppy Forum
not an ideal solution though

gnash I remember I have seen that program name before
but despite reading almost daily here on Puppy Forum
I don't remember we have talked about where in the Menu
or where one can find it or install it and how well it works or ...

or

Iceweasel's webm but I am on FireFox 21 so it would be
a bit unpractical to also have Iceweasel running
or does webm work with FF21 to?

and if it is that easy why have nobody show how practical it is?
