Pup2P - Reborn

#1 Post by TheZenKitteh »

UPDATE: This is a bugfix release.

I decided to update the old pup2p. The developer finally added me to the project so now I can release files from the SourceForge project page. This is NOT an ISO (yet). This is an SFS file that provides the listed applications below.

Included Applications:
* I2P (http://i2p2.de/)
* iMule (an aMule based project for I2P)
* I2Pfox (original dev AWOL so I made a from scratch version)

In the future there may be other apps included.

HowTo:
* Boot up Precise Puppy. Once loaded reboot and create a save file.
* When creating save file, be sure to leave enough room on media for JRE and Pup2P SFS files.
* Download a JRE sfs file (there is one here) and put it under /mnt/home (be sure you have created a save file before doing this and rebooted)
* Download the pup2p sfs file and put it under /mnt/home
* Reboot Puppy again.
* To start I2P open a console and cd /root/pup2p/i2p && ./starti2p
* To start I2Pfox open a console and cd /root/pup2p/i2pfox && ./i2pfox
* To start iMule open a console and cd /root/pup2p/imule && ./startimule
* To get into I2P IRC open I2Pfox and click the bookmark "IRC Connect"
* You can also drag the starti2p, i2pfox and startimule script to desktop for easier access
* With desktop icons you can right click and set an icon as well.

Tips:
* Drag the starti2p, i2pfox and startimule scripts to desktop and set an icon (icons included) to make it easier to launch
* Give I2P time to integrate into the network. This can take a couple minutes if it has connected before or up to a half hour if it is your first connection from that I2P install. I2Pfox is set to automatically load I2P router console when it is started. This will allow you to keep up with news updates of I2P and tell when it has become integrated.
* I don't use iMule so don't ask me questions on how to use it. It is included for completeness.
* I2P, use of I2P and I2Pfox and so forth does not promise anonymity. Use common sense and take precautions.

TO DO:
* Include latest Truecrypt
* Include gpg
* Search for and fix further packaging bugs
* Test on Puppy versions other than Precise
* Try to get feedback on what should and should not be included
* Maybe try to get an ISO made

Looks like an interesting project.

There is a note on the former project page-
NOTE: This software is currently VERY out of date! Sorry for my absence. I may try to update the project soon. 03/2013

So it may be worth trying to contact the author/s if you haven't already.

EDIT: Seems my request to join the pup2p project finally has been approved.

Update of the project page is why I did an SFS. There was no SFS.

V5 released (actually a couple days ago but forgot to update this post).

This should hopefully be final bugfix release for awhile. Next release should hopefully be for feature/program additions and updates to programs if needed.

Precise Puppy to Pup2p stillbirth

#7 Post by brawd »

Well I did the file downloads and copy to /mnt/home and then the reboot. But I don't have that start structure listed to initiate any of those start ups. As a matter of fact I seem to have /root/! but no pup2p folder, obviously I don't have the rest of the path.

I'm running Precise Puppy off a usb thumbdrive with max encryption.

I should point out that this is the first time I've used any of the puppy distros, Although I've been using Ubuntu 12.04 since it became (fairly) stable, and started with 8.04 that doesn't mean I know a lot about things Linux.

Any helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

regards,

Brawd.

Just in case someone else is stuck all you do is go to the .sfs files and run them.

Silly me.
