Is this the answer for PUPs on Touch Screen PCs

#1 Post by gcmartin »

Distrowatch is drawing attention for LInux distro builders by bringing this to focus.

It is here: ===> Distrowatch

Can/will Puppy developers use one of these to bring accurate touch screen operation to the PUP distro builders, or will Puppy Linux use either Lighthouse/Just-Lighthouse's or Fatdog7's method for touch screen operations?

Are these new technologies already in WOOFCE?

Hope this is helpful to PUP developers/builders.

Did you read the result of the poll? Do you care to post a snapshot of the poll result here?

Read? Yes. Copy to here? No (intellectual property concern of mine)

This is posted because of the many issues of video, monitor, display issues we have seen over the years in the Linux world. And wondering whether there are solutions that PUP developers could use to improve their product.

Hope, as a developer, you included your comments there. Of course, you are welcomed to share here.

This is a very bad habit of yours: posting a link without any summary whatsoever. Also known as "click-baiting"; elsewhere you would have been flamed till kingdom come

And you use this "intellectual property" nonsense as the excuse of posting clickbait? In a forum about GNU Linux OS? Seriously?

For the benefit of others - the link in the clickbait post talks about:
Distrowatch Opinion Poll of the week wrote:This week we would like to know who among our readers are using new display technologies like Mir and Wayland. Have you migrated away from X? We would like to hear about your experiences in the comments section.
And the result so far:
Wayland and Mir

I am using Wayland: 68 (5%)
I am using Mir: 16 (1%)
I am using X: 1182 (88%)
I primarily use a text console: 21 (2%)
I am using a mixture of the above: 54 (4%)
Yeah, that figures.

So what is it are you proposing? That puppy devs adopt Mir and Wayland, as a way to "bring accurate touch screen operation"? I don't know what "focus" that Distrowatch is drawing attention for. Could you help us all by elaborating what you have in mind?

Personally, I dislike touch screens, especially tablets. They don't seem to last very long before acting up. Give me the old mouse with the rollers that build up with dirt, any day!

Still, touch does seem to be the way of the future ... or present.

Forgive me for I am really not getting you. But, I'll try to share something I think that poll brings attention to. There are 3 technologies that they ask about. 1 of them is the technology that has traditionally been used for APA screens while there are 2 others much much newer.

Couple of the mainline distros have begun adaptation to the newer. Along with this there is an ever increasing availability of newer hardware coming online to public whose display ability gives a different ability to the OS and the application-users experience.

One view that can be taken is that their rationale for moving toward newer may be to address some of the age-old problems that exist in the older technology as well as easier system adaptation to current and newer displays, thereby reducing past issues.

I can say, that the polls draws attention to viewers who may not have seriously taken a look at the newer. As such others may be inspired to become a little more knowledgeable of any advantages and of those delivering this newer to its user community.

The polls results are what I would expect as the newer is not as well spread at this time.

This thread is both an alert to what the poll brings and an opportunity to open our eyes a little of something that may have an ability to ease user headaches and expand the good things developers do in face of the changing technology we are all faced with.

I hope you find favor in this explanation to you. My manner of posting may not meet with your approval, but often times the reader is able to derive benefit and usually will extend or add to what is viewed or at the very least, walks away with some points of understanding that they may not have had. This, of course, is not aways the case.

P.S. My view of intellectual property is certainly not yours. In any event your contribution is welcomed.
