Hi oldyeller.

I've found a solution for another issue with the e17 window manager.

When having a huge number of menu entries (.desktop files, LazY Puppy has) -especially when symbolic links are in /urs/share/applications- in e17, it takes some time to get the menu categories under "Applications".

I have put a little script into /root/Startup:

Code: Select all

# Get current used WM
CURRENTWM="`cat /etc/windowmanager`"
if [ "$CURRENTWM" = "enlightenment_start" ]; then
sleep 2 # you might want to edit this?
	exec /opt/e17/bin/enlightenment_remote -restart &
fi
After this the menu categories under "Applications" will show nearly immediately - even if there is a huge number of symbolic links instead of real .desktop files in /usr/share/applications (which usually causes remarkable extra delay without that e17 restart script).

Thanks for all of this information. So far I have not had any issues with e17, except that somethings run slower than in jwm, could be that it was not compiled for Manna OS.

Cheers

Hi, oldyeller.

Yes, this might not be the case in Manna OS with no extra applications installed (or another Puppy using the e17 WM), since it doesn't have that huge number of .desktop files. But it could change when installing lots of applications.

LazY Puppy (current used version of mine) has 606 .desktop files. And all of them are symbolic links.

So, the delay to show the menu categories under "Applications" is really (extra) remarkable.

Hi RSH,

I will keep this in mind. I have done a new build with e17 as my default wm and so far all seems to be ok will be testing some more before next release in August.

Hello Everyone,

I have done a remaster of Manna-2.8 which was a woof2 build.

It is 374mb, it has a lot of added pets and changes to the ppm. JWM is no longer in and openbox_plus-1.5.3 is.

Manna Bible Software-3.1.1 is update. get it from the first post.

God Bless and Enjoy

Hello Everyone,

I will be doing a new build with woof using precise 5.7.1 for Manna 2.9.

What I want to know is would you like for a non-pae or pae for the kernel?

Will also be looking at the menu as well, thinking about what a new user would use in the menu. any ideas would be great :D

Cheers

I prefer pae, however, how about both?
Thanks,
Jim

That could be in the plans, we will have to see how everything goes. When ever I ask for feed back it never comes, so thank you for yours :D :D

My wife is back using puppy again so I have her seeing what she likes in the menu and what eye-candy (icons, gtk themes and wall paper) she thinks should be in for new users. It will have some new programs + wbar.

It will be awhile for this release, that is way I am asking some questions in the post above.

Cheers

I think the question could be how many of us are using older computers without PAE, rather than which to chose. (I use both)

@JB
I didn't think about that since I am not really sure who uses any of the Manna OS's that I have done or even the separate program.

So I will probably do both non-pae and pae so that all can use it.

Thanks for reminding me about people that are using older computers. Any thoughts about the Menu as far as what a new user would be comfortable with. I know that will depend on the person using it though.

Cheers

There is a new Manna 3.2 you can get it here

I also will not be doing a new woof build, I will be remastering this one again. I like it better than 5.7.1

Hello Everyone,

The new Manna that i did has a flaw in it. I have put to many icons in /usr/share/pixmaps that Manna needs for the icons to show up in the menu.

I have reuploaded Manna-3.2 and made a script that will remove the unwanted icons.

##########################################

As of today September 09, 2013 if you have downloaded Manna-3.2 you not need to use this script.

Hello Everyone,

I have found a bug in Manna-3.2; Sorry about that thought I did a complete inspection before uploading it.

This update will fix the Studies to load in the chapters so that the whole study can be viewed.

Hello Everyone,

I will be doing a new Manna OS once I get Manna Bible Software updated. Recoded it so that I will be able to continue to add resources to it. As it is right now it will be limited to how much I can add. So Lord willing it will before June.

Cheers
