Firefox 19 was working and now it does not

#1 Post by popov »

Firefox 19 was working and now it does not. After launch I get white screen and I need to kill process. That is not enough, after killing and trying to run again it says that firefox is still running. Disabling everything in task manger is the only way of stopping it. After that I can launch it, and it works normally.

Any advice?

Advice: 'Always' include which Pup you run. Now, have you tried safe mode? Your FF came from where?

Well, for me it seems that Firefox does this kind of stuff, sometimes.
What you have already done you say fixed it.
I usually just reboot the computer and that clears it up.
Firefox is up to version 20.0.
Maybe there is a bug fix in the newer 20.0 version.
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
When I was a kid I wanted to be older.... This is not what I expected

I am running LXPup, which is based on Slacko 5.5

Firefox came with distribution and worked perfectly for some time. Didn't try safe mode, didn't install any plugins.

Also, it happens on every reboot, so I need to manually terminate processes every time which isn't what I like.

Nineteen came installed or you upgraded (from which)?

How about safe-mode.. she work there?

No? Try a new profile: firefox -P

Browser came with my Puppy and was working fine. None of those solutions worked, I don't have any plugins installed. Wondering is it possible that some libraries from base sfs package were disabled/removed?

Starting to sound like you left out a few key details when posting..

Are you saying you used an sfs version alongside one that came installed?

Which one's set to run now.. the installed version or sfs?

If the former, install twenty right on top.

firefox from a shell dumps what?

No, I am using the one that came with lxpup. As I said, it was working well for some time. I am not sure if its related to fact that I was heavily customizing lxpup. For example I have updated many libraries to newest versions, then removed some. This is my only bet. As for shell, it doesn't dump anything, seems that nothing wrong is detected. I didnt try to install from repository/standalone sfs yet, because for now I'm trying to fix this version.

Still, I'd say twenty on top would iron things out.

When all else fails- fresh install! Unless there's an underlying problem, a clean slate usually does it.

Are you certain: firefox -safe-mode doesn't dump a message?

Is: which firefox still on your path?
