Creating a persistent Samba share [SOLVED]

#1 Post by rmcellig »

Is it possible to create a persistent share in Puppy? For example, I mount a share window, copy one of the directories from the share to the desktop. The folder has a green dor on it telling me that the share is active. When I restart my PC, the folder is still on the desktop without the green dot. Is there a way so that when I restart, the share automatically mounts and the green dot always appears on that directory so I don't always have to go to pnethood to manually mount the share?

.
Thanks!

I got as far as this step. How do I do this. I have the startup folder open, but am not sure how exactly to create the symlink.

Open your /root/Startup folder and create the following symlink:
Code:
ln -s /usr/local/yassm/samba-automount

Rt-clk >> window >> 'terminal here' and execute.

You always link the *real* file  to the location.

Thanks Semme and rcrsn51,

First I want to apologize for not getting this. It seems so straight forward but I am not understanding the procedure.

Here is what I did so far:

I have Yassm (v2.6) installed as well as two shares. I dragged the ~YASSM directory onto the desktop and that's where I am at the moment.

Semme, I understand how to create a symlink by dragging the file and then selecting absolute or relative. Is it the samba-automount file I drag into the Startup folder.

Please set me straight, and thanks for helping me!!

There are two ways to do this.

1. Open a terminal window inside /root/Startup and type the above command. You can quickly open a terminal by pressing the back-tick key (`).

2. Drag the file samba-automount from /usr/local/yassm into /root/Startup and make a symlink.

Thanks! I will post back once I try this out and thanks again for your help!!

My goal is to eventually use Puppy as my main OS. After all, I keep coming back to it. There must be a reason why? :)
