"Testing" Sensei & Sensei64 Subject description: Barebones-Full system w/pacman package manager PAE, non-PAE, & 64-bit |
|
"Gone are the days of desperately searching through threads for your favorite app, just to find out it's only been compiled for Lucid "
This system is based on ArchPup but is a derivative of AlphaOS-001. It uses Racy's 3.0.25 kernel. The non-PAE isos use Retroprecise's 3.2.32 kernel. non-PAE kernels tend to be 'faster' on machines w/less than 4GB of RAM.
The 64 bit Sensei64 is also based on ArchPup but is a derivative of FatDog64-521. It uses 64-bit 3.8.5 kernel.
This system is designed to grow (shrink) with you, as your skill level using GNU/Linux advances. You'll try different apps as time goes on, and have your own specific favorites...and prefer not to have two of the same things installed. When that becomes the case, you can simply delete the senapps.sfs file, and install only the apps 'you' want. Sensei gives you the freedom to truly remove any app you might not want, rather than just hiding/whiting out the files.
Thanks goes to BarryK, simargl, mavrothal, kirk, jamesbond to name a few.

If you've downloaded the full iso, the barebones iso is not necessary. The exact same "sensei_001.sfs" file is on both isos.
The barebones isos are so clean/barebones that you need to know your way around somewhat, using them, to get your Linux Box set up 'exactly' the way 'you' want it.

i fixed the issues that i came across with the barebones iso, and also uploaded a full iso w/the xfcedesktop.sfs and also an apps.sfs.
This should make it easier on newer/intermediate users, who are interested in an Arch/Puppy system that includes pacman.

Hi stifiling
Sorry for my ignorance, what does cpl stand for?
Has the barebones ISO been updated?
I'm going to try an make a Puppy-like version with JWM etc. but with the Pacman function.

The firmware for the b43 wireless is not the correct firmware in the ISOs. I've fixed that and will re-upload.

try the command:
and let's see if we can identify where the error may be.
when the installation is booting....do you see
"senapps sendesk" as having being found and loaded?
if you don't see senapps sendesk...then the adrive and ydrive with xorg and the gui apps didn't load. if you downloaded one of the previous iso's and are using the previous initrd.gz....replace that file with the current one.

I am using latest ISO file. Anyway I will try with startx.
Update : I got the desktop after entering "startx" in command prompt. However, mouse is not working. I will check once again.
Also "senapps sendesk" not loading while booting.

Thanks for the update. No luck on the machine you were using yesterday?
I uploaded another iso last night. If you can test it on the machine that it's not working correctly on, let's see if it works now...

Save File creation Subject description: Menu option |
|
I unable to create savefile in Sensei. Please provide option to create savefile automatically as done in original puppy. If not possible, give an option in Menu entry as done in Alphaos. Creating save file through command prompt is difficult, as it require some good knowledge in Linux.

I couldn't agree more. I'll see if i can figure out how it was done in ArchPup and implement the same solution.

Looking at this code and admitting me know almost nothing
then I come to think on changing the figures?
dd if=/dev/zero of=/mnt/home/senseisave.3fs bs=1k count=1000000
mkfs.ext3 -q -m 0 -F /mnt/home/senseisave.3fs
if one change the count=1000000 to count=500000
then it should be 500MB and if changed to count=25000
then only 250MB?
Another thing to consider? Where to place it. If one place it on
of=/mnt/home/senseisave.3fs then in frugal booting of many other
puppies them see that save file there in home so would it not be better
to have it here of=/mnt/home/sensei/senseisave.3fs
inside a Dir dedicated to Sensei?
Another typical me thing. I don't dare to do dd
Can I not use an AlphaOS-001 savefile made byAlphaOS-001
and empty it and then Sensei fill it with it's own things?
Unless it is difficult to empty it? To move a copy of an old
savefile is much more safe than doing dd this way?
