Upup Precise 3.8.3.1 created by using up-to-date Woof

#1 Post by pemasu »

Upup Precise 3.8.3.1 has been uploaded. I did use latest woof at the time.
Kernel is 3.8.3 non-PAE and it has large driver support.

The latest announcement in this link:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 156#693156

The DISTRO_SPECS ie package selection follows the ones Barry Kauler used and some enhancements for laptop usage and for pet installation.

3.8 kernel has now been used in several Puppies. 3.8.2 kernel is also in PHATslacko so...feedback in these puplets and possible fix needs should be common.

I have announced most of my builds in Derivative section. Dpup Wheezy was the exception. I am not sure if Puppy Projects is any better place...but basically this is not pure derivative. It has been created with latest woof at the time and 3.8.2 kernel has been compiled by pemasu.

Credit for this build goes to Barry Kauler and large community support through Precise Puppy development threads and other threads.

aufs3.8 has been used, and aufs3-util has been compiled in this build. Wpa_supplicant has been updated to version 1.0 and couple of other pets has been added.
Sns and Frisbee are both included, Rerwin`s latest work has been used.

Otherwise there is not large modification...like I did with Dpup Exprimo. I provide this build as non-PAE alternative for Precise Puppy.

Enjoy, test it, give feedback, find bugs and even better... suggest fixes...

Hi, pemasu.

The puppy sfs inside your iso is called "puppy_precise_3,8.2" (3 comma 8 dot 2). Is that a typo ? Can it be called correctly by the kernel? Is it compatible with the "3.8.2" (3 dot 8 dot 2) ending in the name of the devx ?

Not burning anything for now.

Thanks in advance.

Fresh frugal install on the old Athlon XP box........ everything looking good except ......basically impossible to mount a usb flash drive. No icon on the desktop, not detected by Pmount or Gparted. No problem in countless other Puppy installs.....problem present in all 3.8.X Puppy kernels.

Booted Asus x101ch (this has the difficult NM10 chipset), and display is working well. No problem with Flash drives. Thanks, pemasu!

(I wonder why Racy 5.5 and Precise 5.5 can't handle this graphics-display combo.)

Billtoo. Sorry. Those media drivers were supposed to be there. It seems I have missed some. I will include them or recompile kernel so that missing dvb and pvr drivers will be included. I dont understand how I missed them. They were included at some point.
Sorry.

Hey pemasu

I took the liberty to compile GParted with f2fs patches.

http://smokey01.com/01micko/precise/

doc and nls there too.

I didn't test yet but f2fs shows up, I can't see that there will be problems. That said, anyone can test

Raffy. I have spesifically included support for your graphics. it needs some special arrangement. Thanks goes to 01micko. He has created the patched files and script to handle intel gma graphics. I merely included his work.
Long live 01micko. Rodon also compiled modesetting_drv.so and his compile has been included. Thanks Rodon.

Edit. I was writing my post when 01mickos post arrived.
Thanks 01micko....again.

Hello Pemasu,

Upup Precise 3.8.2 booted to desktop on my nvidia FX5200 card machine with no missing menus and graphics! Nouveau driver is loaded, glx gears giving 600 FPS

The quickpet.desktop file has a typo - menu entry has no icon.
Icon=/usr/share/icons/pupster.png should be
Icon=/usr/share/icons/qpupster.png

Edit:- Or maybe not? Too big! Perhaps should be pointing to some other icon?

I am reuploading atm Upup Precise 3.8.2.

Those missing dvb and pvr drivers have been added.

Gparted has been updated to 01mickos provided one with f2fs support. Happy flash drive testing. I suppose there is already thread in murga-forum howto use f2fs formatted flash media with Puppy.

Quickpet_precise has been updated with amd catalyst modern and legacy drivers. The missing menu entry icon has been fixed.

I decided to quickly update the initial build so that so far found bugs and updates are included in the build.

I take a rest now...I will be back next evening....

Check the first post for downloads. The upload should be finished in 45 minutes or quicker.

The file kernel_sources-3.8.2-upup.sfs.md5.txt is a little wonky. It appears to have a tab character in the middle instead of two spaces.

Hello, pemasu.

Iron refuses to load : system says it's a library because it's in /usr/lib/iron-linux, even if big executable there is given permission to execute.

Opera in /mnt/home/opera flashes on screen, but doesn't stay. Unusable.

Seamonkey ok.

Sound ok.

Symlink from /usr/share/X11/rgb.txt to /root/.rgb.txt, required by gcolor2, is missing, as in most Puppys. (I'm not counting the years I've been saying this anymore...)

BFN.

Seamonkey ok.
Google-Chrome works if you install pemasu's fix after installing Chrome.

Quick post before going to work.
Billtoo. That fix has been adopted to the woof and it is already in the Upup Precise.
I tested it with http://www.chromium.org/ without installing that fix pet.
Chromium nowadays uses same filenames and location as google-chrome.

The .deb after installation met the fix automatically and it launched without any need to do root fixes.
So it works oob. Google-chrome fix is in place already.
There is cache limit 10 Mb for those browsers also.

/usr/local/petget/hacks-postinstall.sh

Hi,

Long time no see. :D

I ported over Qupzilla 1.4.0

I've been unable to upload the .pet to the forums so I just shoved it over on a storage site.

https://mega.co.nz/#!q5hQBQZK!FleMGygwm ... v17-LPHBfk

I installed it on Upup and it works awesome.

Upup Precise 3.8.2 created by using up-to-date Woof

#20 Post by Billtoo »

I installed 01micko's gparted-0.14.1-i686_F2FS-precise.pet and used it
to prepare a 16gb SDHC card then installed a remaster of upup3.8.2 to
the card.
It worked fine.
@pemasu
I didn't know about the Google-Chrome fix already being in 382, sorry.
