I want to put puppy linux on a usb drive and install it on a old CPU, but i couldn't figure out how to do it.

Could someone give explicit directions please? Really explicit, simple thing like what browser do i use? Exactly what to click on, screen shots if possible.

Im new to this, and am confused very easily.

Details: Im running Ubuntu 12.10, they computer i want to install puppy on is a windows XP.

This is my problem: I click download lastest version, then i click on teh mirror file, then it has a list of stuff, what do i dowload from the list of stuff?

Am correct that Puppy runs well with old machines with small ram? Mine only has less than 1GB.
Wait I just found something called macpup, is that as small as regular Puppy?

You don't want MacPup. As a beginner, stick with the mainstream builds. As for ram- you have more than enough.

Slacko 5.4 is available with a choice of kernels, 3.2.33 compiled for processors that do not support PAE and 3.4.17 for processors that do. The 4g (non PAE) version comes with a choice of Opera browser or Firefox, a major departure from Puppy's offering of Seamonkey only. Of course all major browsers are available from the Puppy Package Manager.

I dont have to be able to load to a flash drive.

May i ask whats wrong with MacPup?
The computer im going to put the os is not one i use a lot at all, so it dosnt have to be really compatible.

Oh and the ram is 512 GB i think.

Ok i downloaded to first mirror for macpup, what do i do with the file?

If you can boot from cdrom, burn the iso with one of Ubuntu's burning utilities- 16x max.

Thanks i got it installed, i remembered i had cd image burner thingy on my window half of my ubuntu computer.

I like the setup, it runs a whole lot faster than XP on my old machine, but i'll half to do some leg pulling to get my ASUS USB-N13 internet thingy to work on it.

Maybe ill try crunchbang. i tried bodhi but it was to unstable for my family to use i think.

Which *regular* Pup did you sample and what about it wasn't appealing?

Slacko i think. I guess it was the look mostly, that one thing i really want from my os, look. Also i didnt get how to install it to the machine.
Maybe i'll go back to if i can't find another os i find more apealing.

MacPup? You need a later kernel for wifi. PCLinuxOS should have it!

It wasnt going to get much use then i found one for it. Anyway i have macpup up and running now. How do i install mac pup and delete all other os on the computer?
