Wiki spam attack |
|
Some comments on the wiki are under spam attack
with as many as 50 bogus comments leading to spam sites
If you own wiki pages keep an eye on "recently commented"
and if worried change your "ACL" to registered users only
I will now sort what I can
Note to Barry - Please do not globally change the ACL's

Looks like a few of my pages are being targetted. I am in the process of cleaning them up at the moment.

Ok, I'm finished, it looks like there are pages belonging to the following people that still have heaps of spam attached:
NathanF
KrumpLi
CrustyLobster
JeyRey
NioMante
KcIn
Have fun.

I'll go clean up immediately. I didn't expend so much effort to get rid of spam on my own websites just to see it pop up on the Wiki.

No problem, just periodic maintenance. I do wonder how I came to own a few of those pages, though.

The pages targeted I have placed
at the top of the page
this turns off the comments
That is a quick fix
About ownership:
When the wiki was moved to a new site
for ease of setup Barry took ownership of all pages
I changed ownership to those whom I knew had an
interest or had previously created or contributed
(I may not have got this right)
Most of the pages I have created
have been passed on to others
A few pages are awaiting owners (they are public)
Contributing to the wiki is an easy way to develop
the knowledge base of Puppy without coding skills
You can change ownership by editing the ACL's
at the base of any page you own
I used the knowledge gained at Puppy to create my own wiki
http://tmxxine.com/Wikka/wikka.php?wakka=HomePage
I would have liked to host the Puppy wiki BUT
as I have never owned a server was not sure this would be a good idea
In fact whilst tweaking the php code I managed to crash
my own wiki (since restored and defaults used)
Registered users should be able to edit all pages

While we're discussing the wiki, would there be objections if I turn off the editing buttons (that is, those that show when you edit a page)? When the buttons are there, Javascript runs to intercept keystrokes and this makes editing very slow, especially for long pages.
Remembering the markups is very easy anyway - it is a wiki. What do you think?
