Browser sizes

#1 Post by Hetejas »

I just installed Precise and was poking around in Seamonkey. I was going to install Chrome but the installer warned me about space considerations.
If I find a smaller browser, how do I uninstall Seamonkey ?

This PC does not need an all-inclusive browser, as it will be rarely used.
What it needs is one with a small footprint and of course, lightning quick.
I saw that Seamonkey had connections to email, social groups, etc., and that is way overkill for what I want to do.

Any recommendations ?

thanks

Well I see that the Install package gives me an estimate of 112,056kb for Chromium and both Firefox and Seamonkey are smaller than that.
Still on the hunt.

If you are running from live CD or a "frugal" install then there is no point in "uninstalling" it, because it isn't kept in your save file, but in the read-only .sfs file.
Do you know a good gtkdialog program? Please post a link here

I am not familiar with a "frugal" install, other than to read about them.
Would I take any performance degradation by doing a frugal install ?

Thanks

A frugal install is just like running from CD, but the files from the CD are copied onto the hard drive so that it boots faster. So a frugal install consists of only a handful of files, and it often lives inside a Windows partition or on a USB flash drive.
A full install is when all the files inside the .sfs are extracted into their own linux partition, and there is no save file.
