Using of /dev/disk/by-path

#1 Post by wawi »

Hello,

there are in Precise 5.4.3 a fixed addressing like /dev/disk/by-path?

Normally, udev create this link. udev is installed out of the box, but I don't find /dev/disk/by-path. It is nice to have for cloning hard discs.

Hi wawi; It`s difficult to understand what you`re asking. What do you mean: "/by-path".?

It sounds like you`re talking about the devices in /dev . Like /dev/sda1

Yes, but /dev/sd.. is not stable. It depends from the order of connect or power on. In opposite, "by-path" has a invariant relation to the main board connector.
