Macpup 520

#1 Post by runtt21 »

Prit And I are proud to announce the release of Macpup 520,our newest
e17 Macpup.

MP520 is based on Puppy Linux 5.2 ,"Lucid Puppy", An official woof
build of puppy Linux that is binary-compatible with Ubuntu Lucid Lynx
packages.MP520 contains all the apps from Lucid puppy with the addition of
Firefox 4 rc 1. Extra apps like Opera or Gimp are available for easy
download from the Quickpet App on the ibar or the Puppy Package Manager.
MP520 also includes the Enlightenment E17 window manager. The EFL libraries
version 1.0.0 and E17 version 55225 where compiled and installed
from source.

All included E17 themes are By Verdegal37 and where customized for
Macpup by CatDude and Runtt21.

Thank's to everyone that has help or supported the Macpup project:
Ttuuxxx, CatDude, Puppyluvr, Mu, Sneekylinux, Rasterman and all Of the
E17 crew, ZaZoOo, WhoDo, Omskates, Cgt_1991. Joel, Russoodle,
GrumpyWolfe, Rokytnji , 01miko & Maxpro4u.

Extra Thanks to Agust(Verdegal37), The best E17 Themer on the planet.
And Louis King Jr. for the background in the grub bootloader.

Special Thanks to BarryK the creator of puppylinux. And PlayDaze the
developer of Lucid puppy.

IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR MACPUP 520. If Quickpet recommends your computer needs the Xorg-High-1.1-lucid.pet. DO NOT INSTALL IT FROM QUICKPET OR THE PUPPY PACKAGE MANAGER. It will cause the system to freeze up. We Have a fixed version , Xorg_High-1.1-macpup.pet & the ATI_fglrx-10.10-macpup.pet in the macpup520 folder on my page at:

http://macpup.org/runtt21/

The .iso is 174 mb.

http://macpup.org/macpup520.php

The default theme:

The three extra themes:

Important note about themes, All of the mp511 themes will work in mp520. I have updated the default themes from mp511 for use in mp520. They are in the MP520-themes.pet's in the macpup520 folder on my macpup page.

This version of Macpup will boot to desktop in almost all cases and from that screen you can make adjustments if they are needed or wanted. The desktop and clock should be correct. If it does not boot to a graphical screen, it might boot to a “prompt.

Like the last few macpup's this is a rebuild of the main.sfs not a remaster. You may run into this white box,If you do just press f1 and keep going.

Image

This macpup has the extra drivers from 511 that part of the lupu 520 update preinstalled. Quickpet is up to date.

Change log : Lupu 520 to macpup 520

Openbox, all openbox themes and config files,Fbpanel and config files and the dillo browser have been removed. All of the puppy backgrounds and extra icons sets have also been removed.

Firefox is directly from the mozilla site.

Change log : macpup 511 to macpup 520

Mp 511 has two file managers ,Rox and EFM. EFM has come along way and is improving but is not that puppy friendly so it has been removed from mp520. Mp511 also has two exit menus. The e17 exit menus doesn't work with puppy linux that well and has also been removed from Mp520.

More info later Today.....

Thank you Terry . :D

Thanks guys , Glad to see you're still on board with us. :D

We have decided to stop using the "Foxy" and "Opera" names and just stick with versions number . But This would have been Foxy 4.0 ,Kind of cool it has firefox 4. To get that classic macpup foxy look and feel Install the MP511-megan-3 .pet

Image

Also try the new MP520-Black-4.pet

Image

Each of these themes has their own bootsplash. To select it go to menu-setting-settings panel. Then under the Look tab select startup then under personal select the theme and then apply.

If you have a desktop or just want to use puppy'd tray apps you can remove the battery or temp gadget but right clicking on the gadget then select gadget and then remove. You can go a step farther and unload the gadget. Remove it from the shelf first. Then meun-settings-modules. Select them under the system tab and then unload.

To use puppy's stuff right click anywhere on the bottom shelf then select bottom shelf and then contents. In the next window select systray then add gadget.

Umm, still dling mp520 - but the old-fashioned way is to Ctrl+Alt+backspace to go out of X (E17's desktop) and follow the prompted instruction after typing "reboot" or "poweroff" if it's your initial run (create a save file and save to it, save to cd-multisession or bypass either if you don't want to save session and go through setup again)

Some good tutorial articles by runtt21 that should still be somewhat viable in the mp511 thread.

hth & welcome to e17 macpup-style, fxjudy :)

Congratulations. This puppy is MAGNIFICENT! My technician, a long time Linux user was blown away by the look and SPEED.

I've installed all my stuff - WINE and Miditzer (a Virtual Theatre Organ) along with JACK, QJackctl, Qsynth, Jconvolver, JcGui and xdotool. All work perfectly. :D

Now to see if I can learn how to get them into the iso without losing all the goodies like the bootscreen menu and the video detection and setup.

Thanks
Graham

Russ you're the best !!!! Thanks!!

fxjudy do a md5sum check on your download. It sounds like you need to add acpi=force to your boot code.

Brown Mouse I removed that script But I forgot to remove the menu entry.
Plogout handles the switch for us ,We has used that forever.

I also added a new resize pupsave script based on Big Bass's :

installing macpup 520 with unetbootin

#16 Post by cgt_1991 »

I like to install "macpup"on my USB stick with UNetbootin, but this time I have not worked,, thanks to this post from "Pizzasgood" I could solve this problem:

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=174220

to work, we must modify the file "syslinux.cfg" as follows:

Code: Select all

default puppy
display boot.msg
prompt 1
timeout 50

F1 boot.msg
F2 help.msg
F3 help2.msg

label puppy
kernel vmlinuz

append initrd=initrd.gz ide=nodma pmedia=usbflash
if someone wants to download unetbootin:

http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/

bye :D

Wow ! First time on E17 (actually it's the name of a freeway here in Belgium).

Beautiful, plus I feel like the mouse runs faster and more accurate.
Great work runtt21 & prit.

Thanks for this puplet.

Trying to install jubler http://jubler.org/ it fails to find java 1.6.0.22 which I have installed.
