Upup Precise 3.7.2 has been uploaded. This Precise Puppy based, enhanced version, uses 3.7.2 kernel. It does not have pae kernel, basic i686 for compatibility with older hardware.

Usual large device support. This is first 3.7 kernel trial, so surprises are expected. It behaves with my short tests. This is the second compile of the kernel using 3.7.2 version, so it has gone through some usage.

Firmware handling, graphics and so on needs user feedback.

For LateAdopter, this kernel has msr and cpuiid support, as modules. Happy low level tuning.

SMB2 support for cifs has been included. It might have some benefit with Windows 7 shares. I dont know if the mount syntax needs any new parameters.

Otherwise this build is about same as Upup Precise 5.4.X.7, so read announcement post of that version.

Installed firewall state using quickpet
Installed Abiword 2.90.dpup.pet - problem with abiword 2.86 - did not open to a full screen. 2.90 works much better

Another happy little Vegemite here with Upup Precise-3.7.2.

Frugal is running well with my sfss, loading .pets, and has had no graphics problem (radeon HD5450 card, 1600x900 LED monitor).

Cannot tell any difference between Precise-5.4X7pae (have this in Full and Frugal) and Precise-3.7.2 (non-pae).

Will try a Full Precise-3.7.2 next.

The 'Update Procedure' is not working correctly for frugal installs!

3.7.2 auto updates your frugal install without a problem (and all automatically), in fact it retains all of your changes (that is great) but... after a shutdown and a reboot from the HDD, it presents you with the features (type enter to update or any key to copy to ram etc) it normally would have done this when originally booting from the 3.7.2 disk now... it won't allow you to use your new updated savefile.

Other than that (so far) 3.7.2 'does work' on an old IBM T22 Thinkpad with 256MB ram... and seems to do it very well!

That's it so far, no problems.

I have a Full Upup Precise-3.7.2 running with all my usual pets and links working.

Just a small observation. I noticed this Precise has ghostscript-8.64 which has always failed for me when I try to print O-maps on my fujixerox colour laser (using wine/Ocad and any Pup).

You have an older(?) gs version in Precise-54x7 which I have found to be OK with wine printing so I did not bother replacing gs-8.64 with gs-9.05 in 54X7.

davids45. I should have same Barry Kauler`s ghostscript package as he uses in Precise Puppy. There is no Ubuntu Precise Pangolin ghostscript packages used in his or in mine builds:

ghostscript-8.15.4-q1.pet has been used in all these builds.

From Precise Puppy:

And from my DISTRO_SPECS:

Both uses puppy pet ( the same one), not ubuntu .debs.

In my tests I added one package more than Barry: ghostcript package, but I think it still had problems. So I retained to what Barry used, ie his ghostscript pet. I didnt continue the bug hunting.

If there is real need, the experimenting can continue....

The reason. Ghostscript related stuff has been splitted to several smaller packages, there is still missing stuff, and I dont know what else is absolutely needed, probably libgs9-common and probably other packages. The total size would grow much bigger than Barry`s pet provides.

The same goes with cups....

Firefox18.pet from pemasu's upup repo assumes an earlier version of firefox to already have been installed (see inside its pinstall.sh file).
Upup Precise comes standard with Seamonkey in it.
So Seamonkey keeps being installed even if Firefox's pet is installed.
If wanting to remove Seamonkey, one has to do it manually.

Charlie6. I wonder what I have uploaded. The firefox-18 which was meant to be there didnt have pinstall.sh script at all. Only puninstall.sh.

That firefox pet has been created using Tman`s technique and it was provided by 666philb. I did try to upload it for compatilibity. In the future, it might be possible that quickpet uses upup repo. So...I tried to upload quickpet offerings to the upup repo, instead of need to use hosting services.

Firefox-18.pet had flaw. It didnt create firefox symlink to the /usr/bin. Fixed now. It asks if Firefox will be the defaultbrowser and updates /usr/local/bin/defaultbrowser if wanted.

It does not presume that Firefox has been previously installed.

Maybe I did upload wrong Firefox pet. I just dont understand how.
Anyway....Firefox-18.pet has been updated in upup repo.

I am not much gonna use time with browser initialization setups and scripts. Browsers comes and goes. The initialization scripts...if complicated tend to fail at some time, when the script update changes to correspond the newer version fails.
There is browsers for everybodys liking. And I presume almost everybody know how to update the browser to defaultbrowser. It is about first task to do. At least about first task to learn.

But I fixed now the setup script for Firefox.

There is canonical Firefox-18 in ubuntu repos. Just use PPM. It wont autoupdate, I believe.

About removing Seamonkey. Not much use to do that. It is still there as whiteouted files. Just remove DOT.desktop file and run fixmenus and jwm -reload. And it is as much away by that manouver.

I think that removing base sfs contained stuff is useful only if you remaster the build and really remove apps.

Yeah. I did combine my desire to compile kernel and also offer latest kernel for non pae kernel puppy users. There has been a lot development in graphics kernel modules and also wireless drivers have gone through many bug fixes.

There has been a lot problems with both of them with 3.2.X kernel.
I dont know if this bleeding edge kernel is really any better, but there is chance that some puppy users will benefit from it.

And it is fun to experiment with newer kernel.

I've been trying
in both Testing (Wheezy) and Unstable (Sid) for a while..... seems like they made lots of improvements.

Thank you for looking into my ghostscript version 'problem'.

Checking my Frugal Pups (54x7 & 3.7.2), I found they do have the gs version you said (8.15.4).
But in my Full Pup installs, I found the problem gs-8.64 (console: gs -version) and checking the pets I had installed, one of my pets has this ghostscript in it and has overwritten the original OK gs with gs-8.64.

So I must now fix this pet of mine .

Intel atom and cedarview graphics
Upup Precise with non pae 3.7.2 provides gma500_gfx.ko kernel module graphics driver...for certain intel atom cpu with onboard gma graphics.

Aarf has found that this new kernel module is useful.

Continuing of cedarview graphics
After using gma500_gfx.ko kernel module it would be necessary to intall cedarview xorg libs also:
Use PPM and install all cedarview .debs, three of them:cedarview-drm libva-cedarview-vaapi-driver cedarview-graphics-drivers

Of course I am not sure if all those are needed. Next step might be to go the console state and run xorgwizard > Probe and restart xwin.
And hope the best.

I decided to try to create a pet of the needed xorg graphics libs. It makes easier to test the intel cedarview gma graphics.

Being a complete noob, I wonder why hardly anybody has been paying attention to the APT-GET derivative with Synaptic and I think an undeb thing from genious Jejy.

(Has also some other package helpers ..)

In what way does this Upup differ from BK's original ?

1. apt? that crappy cli pkg manager from ubuntu? Does puppy need it? I say no, but lxpup still is decent overall despite the bloat of apt.

2. Newer gtkdialog, better hardware support, has pmusic3 i think (I hate aqualung), newer kernel, no pae (netbooks don't overheat or overheat so quickly on non-pae kernels), and just better overall.
