Cedarview graphics support in Slacko

UPDATE June 05 2015:

The Intel "Poulsbo" GMA500/600/3600/3650 graphics devices are not a true Intel product, but actually "PowerVR" by Imagination Technologies, and are problematic in Linux. They're found in certain Atom-based netbooks - "Silverthorne" Z5xx, "Lincroft" Z6xx, and "Cedarview" N2600/N2800/D2500/D2550/D2600/D2700 models.

Recent official versions of Puppy Linux (at June 2015) - Slacko 5.5/5.6/5.7/6beta and Tahrpup 6.x should all support Poulsbo graphics quite well, via the modesetting Xorg driver, which works in combination with the gma500_gfx kernel module. It should be noted that this is a non-accelerated graphics driver, but it's as good as you can get, and graphics performance is reported as quite good. The shortcoming is no support for 3D games, etc.

For Puppy Lucid, you can use the fbdev graphics driver, available here -

EDIT:
I compiled the psb_gfx kernel module for Slacko 5.3.3-PAE, but test results were not good. Now removed.

2. Slacko 5.3.3-PAE - full third-party Xorg driver update

There's a proprietary "PowerVR" Xorg driver provided by Intel, partly binary, partly source code, here -
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_ ... ldID=21938
This is a full-featured 2D/3D graphics driver. I have successfully compiled it for Slacko 5.3.3-PAE, but this is still quite cutting edge and untested.
I have sent a private message to two forum members who may test this. Results to follow later.

EDIT:
Testing was done in Slacko 5.4-PAE by JustGreg and 01micko. Successful results now implemented in later Slacko versions.

Thanks for all the help. You have definitely identified the that my Cedarview board is the problem. I was able to get Slacko 5.3.3 to boot on it. Unfortunately it does not seem to accept GIMP 2.8, only GIMP 2.6. Any suggestions.

Asus EeePc 1011cx with GMA3600.
All the instructions from Tempestouos, solution

1-Slacko 5.3.3-PAE contains the psb_gfx DRM kernel module, which should allow it to fully boot to the desktop ...
but this particular psb_gfx driver did not have full GMA3600 compatibility enabled, so the resolution will be limited.

The simplest solution should be to install this upgraded psb_gfx driver, now attached.
Once the dotpet is installed, go to -
Menu > Setup > Xorg Video Wizard > XorgWizard
and choose <Probe>
After X relaunches, the resolution might still be incorrect, so go to -
Menu > Setup > Xorg Video Wizard > Resolution changer

...first option Slacko 5.3.3 PAE downloaded with wget, added pet file, XorgWizard...Prove...xorgwizard...but, same terrible 800x600 resolution: I can not have other option than 800x600 ...no 1024x600 option!!
I am using LIVE mode...not installed in hard disk

That's not related to the The "Cedarview" graphics device under discussion in this thread.
The Asus Eee PC 1005 has the Intel GMA 3150 "Pineview" graphics chip, which is a true Intel chip.

I think it would be possible to manually modify several Xorg configuration files ...
but the easiest option, as 01micko explained here -
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 866#697866
is just to use Slacko 5.5-PAE or upup-precise. No additional dotpets are necessary in this case.
