Look in your Network menu for the program called PeasyPort.

Scan your entire IP range 192.168.2.0-254 for Port 9100.

Then repeat for Port 515.

Do you have the Puppy firewall running?

I pasted the following into the PeasyPort IP window: 192.168.2.0-254
I put 9100 into the Port window and hit scan which gave no result.
I then put 515 into the Port window and hit scan which again gave no result.

I never enabled the firewall but not sure how to check to see if it is running.

If you start your web browser and enter the address "192.168.2.1", does that take you to your router?

Do you still have Ubuntu installed? Its printer setup might give you some hints about where your J4450 is hiding on the network.

It should be noted that the printer (along with its scanner function) worked fine when trying out Ubuntu.
Was this connected via the router? I found an Ubuntu forum that reported the same problem as you. There was no solution.

PeasyPort Scan Info:

192.168.2.1 (Port 631):
No result

192.168.2.1 (Port 9100):
No result

192.168.2.1 (Port 9101):
No result

192.168.2.1 (Port 9102):
No result

The printer worked with Ubuntu when connected to the computer but not when connected to the router.

I suspect that the system driving the USB ports on your router is not Linux-compatible.

I have one more suggestion. In Windows, open the properties of your printer and look for the details of its network connection - the port, queue, etc. They may provide some clues about how to do it in Puppy.

I think it's a dead duck. My daughter's Windows 7 laptop could only connect with the networked printer after installing the Belkin software from the install CD. Otherwise, when I boot into Windows XP on my computer, the networked printer is not identified. I am sure if I installed the Belkin software it would be recognized but I rarely boot into Windows XP anymore since the Puppy is so much faster. I greatly appreciate the help I received here because if I need to print, at least I know I can do it now by directly plugging the printer into my computer. I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't missing something simple that would've allowed me to use the printer when networked. Thanks again!
