Guys,

Running Slacko 5.3.1.
I experimented with OSMO with sample data, etc.

Now, OSMO always loads after boot.

Have not found a setting that controls this.

Need to Not Load Automatically after boot.

Try this:

• Right-click on Osmo icon in the System Tray and select Show Options,
  Goto General --> System Tray and make sure that the box that says Start minimized is unchecked.

Am always ready for surprises, however.

Running Slacko.
I do a copy of the savefile every few days,
so I reverted back to a clean one.

( Each savefile is dated, and the last one 'x' out, not deleted.
This rotates the space used on my USB PenDrives,
and should greatly lengthen their life-cycle of re-writes.
Also lets me back-step when my software experiments scrunch. )

Since the savefiles stack up, 4 deep,
plus one minimal 512 first time BASIC.3fs,
I can re-select the troublesome one,
and continue the experimenting with Osmo .

Having come from a career around Relational Databases in M$, I find the next best thing in Linux is the Libre-Office Calc spreadsheet, and it seems that Osmo is a step lower than that (although I must admit that it is eye-catching, smooth and has convenient.forms to guide a user.). My old Logging relational system was a whiz-bang money-maker, but FoxPro does not run in Linux, and I just don't want to go back to M$. Had thought about taking up a Linux compatible language and using SQLite, but having retired I decided I wanted to play with the Linux OS at the application-level, not designing/writing applications any more. ( Have started playing with BASH, whew! )

Slacko is neat. Lucid 525 was neat also. Tiny-Core is too small. PartedMagic is a great tool. Knoppix is a good distro. Half dozen others I have brought up have all been an interesting experience. Since all are basically 'free' and 'no-yearly-license', I have been able to afford to tinker and probe.

OSMO : a DataBase ? When somebody could allow to change column title, it would be quite perfect as a database.
Change columns titles with osmo.mo (language choice).

Right, if you can change headers, then maybe NOT a database.
I never thought of OSMO as having "columns".

OSMO is Not a Relational Database, anyway.
OSMO does not even allow standard exporting of data as tables.
OSMO is just what it says it is, Personal Information Manager.

Works good for what it was designed to do.

Well, and where is the Puppy database ?
I know that OSMO is a PIM.
You can export from OSMO all columns or those you like to a Speadsheet.
and...
Import colums from external files
Import format .cvs (commas) allows filling OSMO from a spreadsheet.
You just have to rename the colums consequently.
OSMO does not mind of what it is. It can be animals, equipment, DVDs, Books, whatever you want.

Sure, you can import persons too...

I hear you. OSMO handles tables, like a spread-sheet handles a table.

Oracle and SQL and the FoxPro implimentation of T-SQL
are examples of commercially viable Relational Databases.

I meant that OSMO is not "exactly" a "Relational Database",
which to me is a shortcoming.
That is just my background.
It is just a table with spread-sheep type linking.

Since you obviously have exported to and imported from SpreadSheets,
as you reasonably described,
I may explore it for little stuff.
If I can setup a procedure / method for entering into Osmo and
exporting "MY" kind of data, then I'll pursue it.

PIM's : XFCE offers Orage which advantage is keeping dates. OSMO loose them walking.
XFCE is a fine desktop, I install it, with orage included. Right now.
About databases, things are not going better. Nothing for PUPPY. Excepted perhaps in QT apps.

something wrong in my english. How to explain, when you export contacts in a csv file with the right birthday date, when you import them, the date is garbled (changed to 1900 ? I dont remember)

Use another process Transfer contacts, XML files, in .osmo (root).
With OSMO not activated !
