Printing problem with Firefox

I'm using Lucid Puppy with Firefox v.3.6.6, and have always had a problem printing web pages.

When I print a web page, the white areas are filled with big gray dots, about 2mm or 3mm...all over the page. Needless to say, if I ever needed to scan one of those pages (to dispute a billing error, etc.), these gray dots would look like black dots all over the page.

The dots are lighter when I use standard instead of draft printing, but they're still present and wasting a lot of printer ink.

I can print documents in any other program with no problems--all except Firefox.

Does anybody know what might cause this, or what I can do to stop it?

Hi,

Personally, I have not the smallest clue.

Though e.g. rcrsn51 has superb expertise and is a great helper
with such problems.

However, this section is really meant for solutions as opposed
to questions - if you don't get an answer with in 24 hours you
might ask Flash, our moderator, to move this thread.

My regards

1. What printer are you using?

2. Is the problem specific to your Lucid/Firefox setup? If you try Seamonkey in another Puppy do you have the same problem?

3. What happens if you print the web page to a PDF file, then print from the PDF viewer program?

4. Does the effect show in Print Preview?

I have printed from numerous versions of Firefox and I have never seen this.

Move it where? I can't find any forum for questions only...?

1. HP DeskJet 952C. The other specs for my PC are in my sig file, if any of that should be pertinent info.

2. Yes. I use Puppy 2.0 with an older version of Firefox, with no issues. I don't have Seamonkey installed. In all my years of using Puppy, I've never had issues with the dots until I started using Firefox in Lucid Puppy (5.1).

3. I've never printed a PDF file before, so I tried printing a PDF file I already had saved. The dots appear on that page, too.

4. No, only on the printed page. Now I see that it's happening with ePDFview, as well. But I have no problem printing word processing documents.

This is a mystery. I can only make two other suggestions.

1. Get the Live CD for a newer Puppy, install your printer and run a test.

2. What printer driver are you using? The built-in Gutenprint or HPLIP? The hplip_print-3.12.10a.pet from here supports your DeskJet 952C.

Gutenprint? Never heard of it. Puppy 5.1 uses CUPS. I can try HPLIP and see what happens. Thanks!

????

When you installed your printer in CUPS, you would have selected "HP Deskjet 952C - CUPS + Gutenprint v5.2.5". That's the printer driver package that is built into Puppy 5.1. Or did you use something else?

I'm sure you're right, then, because I used what was built-in. :)

Did either of my two suggestions above solve your problem?
