Testing android cellphone. Attached pic taken with it. Saariselkä kiilopää. -10 celcius. Light is bit low so the pic would have needed some levels tuning

I have now woofed new build. It has all the fixes through woof. I think there are several important fixes concerning PPM and .deb installations.

I have also incorporated rerwin`s new Frisbee work. It uses now same network framework as sns, no need for duplicate dhcpcd. Switching between sns and Frisbee seems to work quite good. So it is time to test it in build. Thank you rerwin - Peebee and thunor of your work with Frisbee.

I suppose I have tomorrow time to upload this build. I will test it somewhat first. Ffconvert - Pmusic - Pburn - Aqualung - rox right clicks have been updated also. Gtkdialog has been updated due to problems with the version I had.
Iso size about 168 Mb.

hi pemasu,

i have a dvbusb that requires the rtl283u driver, .. it works fine on lucid but the driver won't compile in precise due to the kernel version.

i've found a patched version of the driver that's supposed to work on 3+kernels, but i can't get it to compile on precise.

i was following the instructions here http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1905057 (i made a symlink from /usr/src/linux to /usr/src/linux-headers..blah..blah) but the build fails

any ideas?

cheers

Yes. It wont compile.
There isnt any easy solution yet. Check my dpup exprimo thread with 3.6.2 kernel. I really have tried to get that chip working.

Start to read from this post and several posts after that. You see all the trials I have done.
I will wait until 3.8 kernel before I try again. Sorry.

Or...if you want to update the dvb stuff to the very latest ones, here the link how to do it.
http://linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/How_t ... ce_Drivers

I still couldnt get it to work with the latest kernel driver modules. It was nice practice though.

I am going to delay my upload 1-2 days. Barry Kauler has speed up now for Precise Puppy bug fixes. I will wait until he create woof commits of them.

well if i have to do your work for you pemasu,

it's a bit like when i had to find the 'goggles music manager' icons for you :P

te he

so after lots of failures and head scratching it turned out to be something really simple, there's a switch in the makefile for which 3x kernel you're using

i grabbed the patched driver from here https://github.com/ambrosa/DVB-Realtek- ... rnel-3.0.0
opened the makefile and changed this

Code: Select all

# kernel 3.0.0 / 3.1.0
INCLUDE_EXTRA_DVB := include-300

# kernel 3.2.0
#INCLUDE_EXTRA_DVB := include-320
to this

Code: Select all

# kernel 3.0.0 / 3.1.0
#INCLUDE_EXTRA_DVB := include-300

# kernel 3.2.0
INCLUDE_EXTRA_DVB := include-320
and it compiled.... hopefully it will compile on dpup to

666philb. Ok thanks. I have tried with ambrosa source in 3.4.2 kernel and DC tried and we failed. The source changes were too big.
I havent tried with Precise Puppy 3.2.29 kernel.

Really good news that you find the solution for this kernel. Does the driver work for you allright ?
I could include the driver to the kernel pet.

Thanks 666philb. Your compiled driver for rtl2832U has been included.

Precise Puppy 5.4.X.5 is uploading now. Should be up in about 40 minutes.
I will continue tomorrow with announcement post.

Rerwin`s new integrated dhcpcd - Frisbee - sns has been included. Dhcpcd also has been updated to the latest by rerwin. Thank you.

Please give feedback about network connectivity - switching between sns and Frisbee and also is the connection stable. Thank you.

Hi Pemasu

Frisbee is working for me to set up my wifi connection and to re-establish it again after a reboot...

However people should be made aware that there is a small "feature" still eluding debugging - the window asking to set Frisbee as the default connection manager does not appear after the initial setup so the Connection button on the desktop does not go straight to Frisbee as might be expected but continues to go to the Connection wizard. The default window question will appear if Frisbee is run a second time. We (rerwin and I) think this is happening because the Frisbee add-profile function is not completing so there may be some unterminated processes still running....

Cheers
PeeBee

Hello Billtoo

I think that the CPU frequency scaling tool is one of the scripts that has been broken on Precise, from the beginning. Like Xorgwizard. But BarryK is still fixing more important stuff.

For my Athlon II X2 it is easy to work around, all I have to do is:

Code: Select all

modprobe powernow-k8
Then the CPU tool works correctly.

I expect you just need to modprobe whichever module is appropriate for your processor.

That worked, thanks for the info.

wcpufreq script is work created by tazoc, the script has input from trio, iguleder, influence from archlinux etc....
I think Barry Kauler has not done much to this script. The updates have been created by Tazoc,

Here is the latest version. It has at least fixes to the changed location of drivers with 3.X kernels.

More appropriate announcement.

Upup Precise 5.4.X.5 has been uploaded. I use latest woof available with updates. This version has fixes at the time of 5.4.2.2. service pack. Upup Precise has some enhancements compared to official release. Xchat, Uget coupled with aria2c, Pmusic, laptop tools, acpi stuff, xbindkeys for keybinding.

The kernel is official PAE kernel. Acpi_call and rtl2832u (dvb-usb) driver has been added ( thanks 666philb ).

In this latest release I have swapped Aqualung with tray app enabled version (thanks Billtoo), there is wrapper script so that only one tray app will appear, Pmusic-3.0.6 ( with all dependencies ), ffconvert with latest fix for spaces in names, gtkdialog 0.8.3 revision 493, which will probably be the next stable version.
Pburn, Pschedule updated ( thanks Zigbert ), funny rox-clock ( you can drag it to the Pinboard, thanks Jamesbond).
Fixed version of pdvdrsab ( thanks Thunor and Peebee ).

Last but not the least is the new Frisbee - dhcpcd - sns integrated network manager-connectivity framework, created by rerwin, using Jemimah`s work, existing puppy scripts with modifications. Peebee has been active tester and he has given a lot feedback everywhere where it has been needed. Thanks to both of them.
Thunor has given valuable feedback of the gtkdialog components.

Please give feedback about network connectivity, switching between Frisbee and SNS, stabillity etc...
As Peebee posted previously, there is still probably minor bugs.

Rerwin also patched dhcpcd 5.6.4 ( latest version ) with dropwait patch so that the connection should be better with poor signal.

Have fun !

Hello Pemasu

I have just done a new install of 54X5
Here is the latest version. It has at least fixes to the changed location of drivers with 3.X kernels.
With the wcpufreq-0.9.1.pet installed the CPU scaling tool works correctly.

Thank you.
