SARA B.

#1 Post by RSH »

Hi.

I'm SARA B.

I would like to make your Puppy-Live much easier.

No matter, if you are either a user or a developer - I'm supposed to satisfy both of you!

So if you click me, I will offer to you a tiny little config file to be work on easily. But hey, don't call me a dumb blonde - its only: because I don't like to be clicked - not really.

I like it much more if something (actually SFS Modules) are dropped onto me and I also like Gang-SFS-ing - from time to time. You only need to tell me then, who should be the boss of this Gang.

Take me (now)...

...as a delayed Christmas Gift and, please, don't tell your wife about me!

Wait until she has left the home, download me, unpack me to a EXT partition and open up the extracted directory to watch at me or even to use me immediately.

I will be lucky to be your slave - if you want me to be so.

SARA B.

P.S.

I need only, what's already installed in a Puppy Linux:

- sfs_load (>=1.9)
- gtkdialog4 (>=0.8.0 - 0.8.4 was used at development and testings)
- Xdialog (should be in all Puppies)
- download_file (Puppy's download script)

That's all.

Interactive Video to SARA B. created with LP2_Wink151.sfs. at the bottom end of web page.

Hi.

I have noticed a small issue that happens when accidentally using SARA B. on a already mounted SFS Module. It gives warning to un-mount the SFS first -as it should be-, but after that SARA B. complains it is already runinng - but it isn't.

If you are running into this, just remove file: /tmp/SARA_IS_RUNNING.

I'm currently working on a nice addition to SARA B.

In fact, another RoxApp Directory called Sara's ScriptBox (SARA-ScriptBox), which will give some more comfort to the use of SARA B. and especially of the created SARA R.S.D. Applications.

It will be (hopefully) well commented to make the user able to include those SARA R.S.D. Applications into Sara's ScriptBox and to expand functions of Sara's ScriptBox that way. Dropping a SFS Module onto Sara's ScriptBox will bypass such file/s directly to SARA B., which will find its place then inside of Sara's ScriptBox. So, everything will be at one place and can be used from this one place - creating the SARA R.S.D. Applications and execute them all from a single Desktop Icon; easily to modify by a user just by using copy & paste and replacing some rarely parts of these duplicated items.

Might happen already tonight or at least over the weekend.

The "fix" will be included then.

Hi RSH,

I stumbled upon your Sara B app, and will try this next weekend (on business trip now). Seems like a good feature to customize your puppy.
Are you offering the "core feature" of Lazy Puppy now as an app for implementation in other puppies ?

Personally I would change Sara B's icon on the link you provided. People might think they are getting f*cked when using Sara B.

Well ... "whats on a man's mind ".....

Hi, Volhout.

Well, that's exactly what causes my problems from time to time in real life: what's on a man's mind...

In my country usually it is: beer, soccer, cars (or motorcycles) and young girls!

And I'm NOT interested in any of this!
Volhout wrote:Personally I would change Sara B's icon on the link you provided. People might think they are getting f*cked when using Sara B.
Is it really because they might think so, or is it only because of the disappointment when finding out to NOT getting... ... ...?

Yes, this was my basic intention.

But then I found my SFS P.L.U.S. not working in MacPup550 and DPupWheezy3521. It has crashed X when unloading a SFS Module. Could not find any clue, except it must be some of my modifications of shinobar's sfs_load that I'm using for the SFS P.L.U.S. Toolkit.

So I felt in Love with the idea to re-write the main part of SFS P.L.U.S. (the RunScript Builder) and to use only original versions of needed apps installed in puppy. Result is SARA B., which is really smart and useful - I hope.
Volhout wrote:On business trip now
Uuhhh, this sounds hard to me. I'm the luckiest person when not forced to leave my home.

Thanks for your interest in SARA B. Application.

I load my LupuPlus 5.2.8 from a live CD and run from RAM, and I tried to download and run SARA-B.

Hmm, this is made too difficult for me!
  • I downloaded SARA-B-0.0.5.tar.gz and unpacked it, and found a directory SARA-B-0.0.5 with ReadMe.txt and the script/application SARA-B-0.0.5 inside
  • I downloaded SARA-ScriptBox.tar.gz and unpacked it, and found the directory SARA-ScriptBox with the script/application My-SARA-ScriptBox inside
The ReadMe.txt:
# Rename directory SARA-B-0.0.5 to SARA-B
# Copy the renamed SARA-B directory into My-SARA-ScriptBox
# Overwrite/Merge existing files/directories

What does that mean? Am I supposed to move the entire directory with the script and txt files into the script My-SARA-ScriptBox? Where shall the script be placed? What does it do? What files should be overwritten or merged? Where?

I watched the movie on SARA-B website, but nothing happened when I did the same things, and where did the directory with Gimp, WildFire and other .sfs come from, am I supposed to download those first, or what? I can see some menu entries when I right-click My-SARA-ScriptBox, including Gimp and WildFire, but no explanations or help-files? What shall I do now? Is SARA-B only made for those who already are familiar with LazyPuppy?

No, it is not.

It maybe helpful a little, but it is different to LazY Puppy's SFS P.L.U.S.
Hmm, this is made too difficult for me!
No, it is not too difficult for anyone. I'm from Germany and you are from Norway and both are trying to use English Language, which doesn't work perfectly in each case. I think, that's just all.

Ok:
# Rename directory SARA-B-0.0.5 to SARA-B
As it says: rename the RoxApp Directory SARA-B-0.0.5 (the one with the right-click-menu) to SARA-B (equal to this one already existing in SARA ScriptBox).
# Copy the renamed SARA-B directory into My-SARA-ScriptBox
Open the RoxApp Directory My-SARA-ScriptBox (right-click and look inside or left-click with shift-key pressed) and copy the renamed SARA-B RoxApp Directory into the RoxApp Directory My-SARA-ScriptBox.
# Overwrite/Merge existing files/directories
You should get messages about already existing directories (SARA-B e.g.) and/or files. Merge/Combine such directories and overwrite such files.
where did the directory with Gimp, WildFire and other .sfs come from, am I supposed to download those first, or what?
Those directories of Gimp and Wildfire (inside of the SARA-RSD Directory) are examples. They show where to store the created SARA R.S.D. Applications.
I can see some menu entries when I right-click My-SARA-ScriptBox, including Gimp and WildFire, but no explanations or help-files? What shall I do now?
By these menu entries you can execute the Gimp or Wildfire if the SFS Modules of Gimp (2.6.12) and/or Wildfire (1.01) are locally existing (at boot partition or boot directory, needs sfs_load >=1.9!). If the SFS Modules are locally not existing, open the *SARA* directory of Gimp and/or Wildfire and edit file /data/my_sfs_runscript.cfg. Change entry, DoDownloadSFS="false" to DoDownloadSFS="true". Save the /data/my_sfs_runscript.cfg file. It should download now when trying to execute from the SARA ScriptBox right-click menu. Store them at boot partition or boot directory after downloaded. Btw.: Wildfire should download also a Java SFS as dependent SFS for Wildfire!

For help and explanations look into the AppInfo.xml and AppRun files of SARA ScriptBox to find out, how to add new created *SARA* AppDirs (Like the added Gimp and Wildfire) to SARA ScriptBox. The files and also the GUI of SARA B. are either well commented or have well commented tool-tips.

Note: there is no need to use SARA ScriptBox. Just drag'n'drop SFS Modules onto the SARA-B RoxApp directory.

Hope that helps.

This might be helpful also, hopefully.

The marked/highlighted parts are the parts to replace either with the name of the new created *SARA* RoxApp directory or with the name of the application's icon.

The marked entry for xml:lang="en" will be presented in the right-click menu under EN language. You can add your language by copy & paste such line and modifying lang="en" for your needs - or just change it at lang="de".

Example from SARA ScriptBox AppInfo.xml:
<Item icon="gimp" option="-LP2_Gimp2612.sfs.SARA.gimp2612">
<Label xml:lang="en">GIMP 2.6.12 Image Manipulation</Label>
<Label xml:lang="de">GIMP 2.6.12 Bildbearbeitung</Label>
</Item>
Example from SARA ScriptBox AppRun:
-LP2_Gimp2612.sfs.SARA.gimp2612)
"$SARARSDPATH/LP2_Gimp2612.sfs.SARA.gimp2612/AppRun" &
;;

Dear SARA:

I am an old man....I tried to get you to work....failed miserably...most likely due to my low geek quotient, age, poor eyesight and innate clumsiness.

I'm wondering why you and your associate the Script Box were not released as one of those simple to load sfs files?

Have a nice day SARA.

What did you do?

Can you describe it a little more detailed?

Have you put the SARA-B RoxApp Directory into SARA-ScriptBox RoxApp Directory?

Have you used SARA-ScriptBox or just SARA-B?

What Puppy Version did you use?

Ok.

Upup Raring 3.9.9.2 is already listed as successfully tested. I'm downloading now the .tar.gz packages and doing a test again.

Will return with the results and a description of what I did as soon as possible.

Ok.

I'm running now Upup Raring 3992.

Changed only the Keyboard to DE, so I'm testing with language and country settings EN.

Now doing the tests step by step synchronized with writing the details into this post.

Pre Work

- files downloaded
- opening rox window /mnt/sdc3
- extracting files to /mnt/sdc3 which is a ext3 partition
- downloaded files moved to /root/Downloads (just to get them out of the way)

- opening a new rox window /mnt/sdc3
- opening /mnt/sdc3/SARA-ScriptBox
- copying directory /mnt/sdc3/SARA-ScriptBox/My-SARA-ScriptBox to /mnt/sdc3
- removing directory /mnt/sdc3/SARA-ScriptBox (just to get it out of the way)

- opening directory /mnt/sdc3/SARA-B-0.0.5
- renaming /mnt/sdc3/SARA-B-0.0.5/SARA-B-0.0.5 to /mnt/sdc3/SARA-B-0.0.5/SARA-B
- opening directory /mnt/sdc3/My-SARA-ScriptBox (left-click with shift-key pressed/holded down)
- copying /mnt/sdc3/SARA-B-0.0.5/SARA-B into /mnt/sdc3/My-SARA-ScriptBox (overwriting all dirs/files)
- removing directory /mnt/sdc3/SARA-B-0.0.5 (Edit: the image shows, I've just forgotten to remove it)

Getting a PET to build a SFS Module

I'm now downloading Woofy-0.91 to create a SFS Module from it. Just want to have a clean and new application.

I'm extracting it with right-click action and building immediately a SFS Module also with right-click action. Nothing edited, nothing changed.

Moving the created woofy-0.91_3.9.9.2.sfs to /mnt/sdd1/Raring3992, which is the current boot directory.

Main Work

- drag 'n' drop the SFS Module /mnt/sdd1/Raring3992/woofy-0.91_3.9.9.2.sfs onto /mnt/sdc3/My-SARA-ScriptBox RoxApp Directory
- the GUI appears

- doing a screenshot using pupsnap
- scaling the screenshot-image to 600 by right-click action (nice addition by the way)
- attached image to this post

Sorry, accidentally clicked on the submit button. The rest is right on the way...

- option 'Execute Function 'fixmenus'' activated
- every else option NOT activated
- clicking on the woofy-0.91_3.9.9.2.sfs button of the GUI
- directory /tmp opens up and a message appears telling me the job is finished

- doing a screenshot using pupsnap
- attached image to this post

First Test of the created /tmp/woofy-0.91_3.9.9.2.sfs.SARA Application

- left-clicking /tmp/woofy-0.91_3.9.9.2.sfs.SARA
- short message about loading the SFS Module appears (too quick to read it completely)
- woofy 0.91 appears on the screen

- doing a screenshot using pupsnap
- scaling the screenshot-image to 600 by right-click action (nice addition by the way)
- attached image to this post

- unloading the woofy-0.91_3.9.9.2.sfs by right-click action on /tmp/woofy-0.91_3.9.9.2.sfs.SARA
- again right-click action on /tmp/woofy-0.91_3.9.9.2.sfs.SARA
- choose Load SFS Module & execute its Application
- woofy 0.91 again appears on the screen

End

Hmm, everything seems to work very well.

Could you please try to repeat this and -if successfully done- trying to do this with the your previous used file/s. If this will fail again, would you please send me the .desktop files of the SFS Modules previous used?

Thanks.

Hope that will help somehow...

Now moving back to LazY Puppy...

RSH

P.S.

Is this and its post above a -more or less- usable/good description for you on how to insert the created *SARA* Applications into My-SARA-ScriptBox RoxApp Directory?

Or would there be any more advise needed on this?

Correct me if I am wrong.
In essence. is Sara B. just a menu that loads an selected SFS file, runs the application in the SFS, and unloads the SFS on exiting the application?

Yes and No

SARA-B is a Stand Alone RoxApp Builder and SARA-ScriptBox is a RoxApp Directory offering the SARA-RSD Applications by right-click action onto the RoxApp Directory.

The SARA-RSD Applications are Stand Alone RoxApps, created by SARA-B.

To unload the SFS after exiting the Application one needs to set DoAutoUnloadSFS="false" manually to DoAutoUnloadSFS="true" in the config file for the SARA-RSD Application, which is in its sub-directory 'data', named: my_sfs_runscript.cfg.

The RunScript itself is pretty much equal to the RunScript when we met at the Multi-session live-CD/DVD thread.

But this comes as a preconfigured RoxApp Directory Right-Click-Menu, offering 68 Applications from Audio, Graphics, Multimedia and Video.

Hi RSH

I am searching for a companion (or 2 companions) for SARA B as I am not using some save file and I am sad, of course, to have to load my SFS each new start.

In the original LazY you have a very useful remastering environment. So I would try to remaster so that

- the regulary used SFS (LO, etc.) can be immediately preloaded if I start without save file
- some needing hidden contents of my /root can be preinstalled

(I will eventually use ratpoison in case no mouse is available and also try to re-introduce a login and password in my lovely puplet.

why password? Ubuntu is not happy if I change or add files as "root" as there is no root with user root in my ubuntu but an user with the root rights...)

Have you it as SFS to install it first, and remaster later in the actualized main.sfs or main.iso file of the considered puplet?

The second companion would be you super Vario-Menu also as SFS to add it to other puplet!

Kind regards

PS: but I would prefer to have 2 own SFS's and not a big one as probably that Vario-Menu is not compatible with all Windows managers that we can find in Puppy?
