You wrote
To learn the SFS P.L.U.S. thing
I will upload a .pet for you (and other users),
that would work in LazY and Lucid as well.
Does that mean it works without having to remaster that os?

But the best thing would be if you let us download the Spotify
you already have made and that way we can test it.

Not a wine spotify I have had that for years and don't want to do wine.
I don't trust wine on a root os :)

Now I have spotify installed on both Upup Precise
and Slacko and both work very well.

Why I want Lazy is that I find your SFS PLUS very interesting
and it did work with Firefox but the version where too old
so I need to ask you. Which FF pet should I use to make a
new SFS with latest FF and use that one instead of the old FF7.

The best would be if you uploaded the FF17 sfs to the right place
so everybody could use it.

Or if you don't want to upload new versions all the time
make an easy to follow description on the first page of this thread
how one either translate an old sfs for Lupu into a LP variety
or ...

I wonder about my memory going null or zero.
What did the memory fail to be enough?

Hi nooby.

Currently latest version of Firefox on the forum (Internet & Browsers) is 16.0.2! It is available as .pet and .sfs.

Image

Runs in LazY Puppy 2.0.2 002.

I'm still not at home, but I'll be back for everything else, when I'm at home.

I'm in Lazy now and used that FF 16.0.02 and created a sfs file out of it
but it failed to update to 17.02 or what the latest is so maybe some built
in difference?

What I noticed was that the memory did not suffice.
1GB of Ram is not enough it went close to only 64 mb from getting full
and that could explain why I failed with Spotify. It went over the 1GB?

So the best would be if you make a good linux version of Spotify
as the one you did for Dpup Exprimo as I remember???
and upload that sfs so it can be used by us who want to use Lazy?

23.00 here so I go to bed now.

Should I trust it is the RAM too small or should I make the save file bigger?
AFAIK you not even having a savefile means one don't use that one
for doung pet to sfs in Lazy? So my RAM is too small?

OK, nooby.

I'm at home now. Currently uploading the LP2_Spotify-0.8.4.103.sfs tomy mediafire account. Might take about 30 minutes to upload ---> size is 92mb.

Edit using FF 16.0.02 and have just tested Spotify and it worked good.
Seems I have started all over due to did not change the pfix=ram
so the save file with old install not loaded so I will delete it.
Thanks indeed for all your work done.

So is it me only having 1GB that makes the pet to sfs almost dying?

old text
Thanks for providing spotify sfs will be interesting to see
if I manage to get it going. Thanks for all effort
you put into Lazy

Edit Wednesday 19 PM European time.
Just to correct a misunderstanding.
It is not your SFS PLUS it fail to work in SFS-load from
the other Devs too so it is a general thing about Spotify
and that is not how it works when one do pet install only
when SFS load both in the most used SFS load and in your version
so it is specific for Spotify having processes that goes on in the background.

In Ms Win one can see that that is so in the tray. And when one click
on that icon one can stop even the processes in the background.
The sfs seems to not allow any such option to stop it.
One would need to know what the name ofthese processes are.

Nothing like it is named in the pprocess process manager.

Ok.

Here is the Spotify including the qt (opengl version): http://www.mediafire.com/?4ihmr67hs9uoaew

About applications like firefox:

I recommend to use the versions available on the forum and not to use the applications inbuilt update functions ---> I've found, they mostly fail or resulting in new issues/problems. So, if 16.0.2 is the latest on the forum, just use this and be grateful for it and to members like Tman (who builds the firefox versions for puppy).

Puppy Linux (LazY Puppy as well for sure) is not an OS to be able to run always the newest software immediately.

About the SFS P.L.U.S.:

Yes, you can use/do everything without to remaster, but using a save file can cause problems you'll never run into if you do remaster and don't use a save file.

If I do use a save file, I do it mostly for special purposes (which means, just for some applications).

But as I mentioned earlier: I don not use a save file to 100% at home and LazY Puppy is made especially for the use without a save file!

If you want to use a save file, install LazY Puppy onto a USB Stick. Then you can work using a save file and choose to shutdown without to save to the save file - if somethings going wrong while working. But this feature only works on USB Stick not on USB HD.

Please remove the wrong link to Spotify in your post above.

Thanks!
Lazy with your Spotify sfs works good
I am using it now.

I need to ask you. When I have logged out of Spotify
it seems to still run because when I want to start it again
it says it is already running. Impossible to load again
Software says it needs to be unloaded first but that does
not work. Spent some 50 minutes on it now and I am lost. :)

This is much more difficult than what I expected.
There is no way to unload the Spotify sfs and I am
rather sure of that it is due to how they built Spotify
It is not expected to shut down. It is like Skype in that
the more people that used it the better it works so they
let it run in background and on MsWin one have to click
on the Symbol in the tray and tell it to quit and you could
not know that. I know too little to sugges how one deal with it.
I reboot now and see if it survives or lock forever refusing
to restart :)

Not having used Lazy and SFS before only being used to
SFS-exec I have no idea what is expected of me Sorry.
22.06 so I read your kind answer tomorrow.

Is there some way to cheat the unload manually? To force it to unload
so I can get it started again without having to reboot?

Hope more people care about to test it
and tell you result.

Nooby.

As I wrote at my first try to build Spotify SFS and to run Spotify in LazY, I do not know this Program and I can't use it, because I'm not signed in, I don't want to sign in and so, I can not log in and use Spotify. So, if I can't use a program I'm surely not able to give any help to such program.

Search for a Spotify thread on the forum or open such a thread, if can not be found. Maybe any other member uses spotify and can help you.

About SFS P.L.U.S.:

As I wrote also, loading and unloading sfs using a save file can cause problems you would not run into if you don't use a save file. One is: not to unload sfs files (on some sfs files) from time to time. Usually they are gone after reboot.

Also: the Shutdown GUI gives option to unload all sfs files before reboot/shutdown (just check the check box for this). LazY Puppy next time boots up with no sfs loaded.

Please, do note my mention to the possibilities to use LazY Puppy from USB Stick at post above.

Please do read my posts carefully. I don't want to repeat replies or part of replies.

Thanks.

OK, nooby.

Here are two .pet files to learn how the SFS PLUS does work.

Test1.pet contains a .desktop file and a single script. The Menu entry goes to Utility, the files are installed in /root. The script in Test1.pet executes a second script, which is placed in Test2.pet. It shows a yaf-splash with info, if the second script was not found (5 sec.).

The second script shows a yaf-splash with info, if the second script was found (5 sec.).

Do the following, after download:

1. Right-click Test2.pet and choose SFS Installer.
2. Right-click Test1.pet and choose SFS Installer.

- enter Test2.sfs (you can drag & drop) as dependent SFS to Test1.sfs when option is given.
- choose to copy the RunScript to SFS location at building the RunScript (so, you don't have to use the menu to test this here)

Move the SFS files to your boot directory. Execute the RunScript --> after it loads both of the SFS, it will show message that the second script was found.

Unload Test1.sfs - it will unload Test2.sfs as the dependent sfs as well. Make sure they are unloaded.

Do the following, now:

1. Copy both .pet into a directory (name it whatever you like)
2. Right-click the directory and choose Combine to SFS

- such directory could also contain .deb files!

It will build a single SFS from the .pet files. The RunScript should be there also because of the previous chosen option. If not, create one.

Move the SFS to the boot directory. Execute the RunScript --> after it loads the SFS, it will show message that the second script was found.

Note: Combine to SFS is LazY Puppy built in. Use LazY PaDS in other Puppies for this.

OK, this might get a bit confusing now.

@nooby

If you are using LazY Puppy and its SFS P.L.U.S., please do post in the LazY Puppy thread, because this here is different.

---

Sorry!

Users of other puppies surely do not have the SFS Installer, so they have to build the SFS manually. Here are the basic SFS files (just as the .pet were). Remove the fake .gz, rename it (add "LP2_" in front to the file name) and do convert them to LazY Puppy format (right-click on the sfs).

First convert LP2_Test2.sfs to be able to drag and drop it as dependent SFS to LP2_Test1.sfs.

Thanks again, RSH!

Give it a try and install it as described. Tell me the results. If something's going wrong, I will try to give help, to get this to work. But it should work out of the box, because I have successfully installed this in Lucid 525 & 528, Slacko 5.3, Studio 13.37 and in Precise 5.3.3.3 (and done remasters of these puppies, for a later use (maybe)).

RSH

BTW. the execution of a RunScript checks md5sum automatically at download of a sfs and gives information, if md5sum doesn't fit.

Note: it needs shinobar's sfs_load 1.9.x installed
It is mentioned often in other Fatdog64 threads, and although I made a try I was not able to make this work... I have worked out a solution within Fatdog however.

I am booting from a 32GB card and using Grub4Dos, so I have plenty of room to try this in a true Lazy Puppy environment! I am looking forward to that.

Best regards,

I was not able to make this work
I'm sorry to read that. Did you notice my offer?
Please tell me the exactly version of your Fatdog64. I would like to try to put SFS P.L.U.S. manually into its main sfs and upload this one also to my mediafire account. So, you and other users could download and use this.
I have worked out a solution within Fatdog however.
Can you explain this?

Hello RSH!
I see you found my post in the Project Fatdog64 Forum. Thank you very much! You have given me much to study. Very exciting!
Yes, I noticed your offer but after I found a way to get a "break" I was reluctant to impose here with what may be off-topic.
Anyway, since my focus is 64 bit I spent time trying to use Shinobars sfs_load. The result was a fail, but interestingly each instance I tried could give a different fail mode. I can not explain that.
I will answer more re: Fatdog64 to your great post in that thread.
Again, thanks!

Ah, OK, I see.

If sfs_load by shinobar doesn't work in Fatdog64, the SFS P.L.U.S. can't do anything. It needs a full working sfs_load (1.9.x) to do its work.

Did you post a notice/request in the sfs_load thread?
