Dell TrueMobile 1300 802.11g Wireless Adapter [Intersil ISL3880]

#1 What drivers do I need to load for this device?
#2 What firmware do I need to load for this device?
#3 Where do I find the drivers and firmware?

Thanks

No matter that you posted your wireless..
what are your PC hardware specs.

Honestly....do you wonder why answers take so long???????????

It uses Frisbee.

Truemobile 1300 is BCM43xx (Broadcom).

Included in most Puppies.

@cthisbear & @rjbrewer,

thank you for your replies
using lupu-5.2.8.005; want to stay with lupu, thanks

your responses give rise to 2 questions
#1 even if there are variants of puppy linux, wouldn't the drivers/firmware the same for all?
#2 if I have to download the drivers/firmware from http://wiki.debian.org/prism54, is there some doc that will provide a step-by-step on how to prep them for the puppy environment, where they are to be housed, what system changes need to be made and, the like?

didn't know Frisbee as pup software, my system is WEP, thanks for bringing it to my attention

if I understand this output correctly, the drivers are loaded but not the firmware, correct?

# modinfo p54usb
filename: /lib/modules/3.4.2-dpup/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/p54/p54usb.ko
firmware: isl3887usb
firmware: isl3886usb

# find /lib/modules/all-firmware -name "isl388*"
/lib/modules/all-firmware/prism54_firmware/lib/firmware/isl3886usb
/lib/modules/all-firmware/prism54_firmware/lib/firmware/isl3887usb
/lib/modules/all-firmware/prism54_firmware/lib/firmware/isl3887usb_bare

To see if the firmware has been loaded succesfully, you will need to check with dmesg command what it outputs about about p54usb and firmware loading for it. There could be some errors when you run dmesg in console.

@rjbrewer; thx, reviewed it, appreciate that you tracked this down for me

@pemasu
thanks, changed your commands as applicable to my system (see output below)
the net; it looks like firmware is missing; if so, where do I find and how do I load?
never made it to dmesg
is there a system log I can check to determine if the firmware was loaded?

output from my terminal session follows:

/var/log/messages gathers dmesg content, so check that file.

I didnt remember that Lucid Puppies does not use woof2 standard. Lucid Puppy uses woof base ....about 2 years old at least. Firmwares are tarred .tar.gz compressed packges.
I suppose you find: /lib/modules/all-firmware/prism54_firmware.tar.gz and probably it has the corresponding firmwares.

So...check first what /var/log/messages tells you about p54usb loading and firmware loading for it.

You could post the whole messages file here.
In console type: dmesg > dmesg.gz and post the created file here. Maybe there is a glue of the problem.
It could be that 2.6.33.2 kernel module driver just does not support your wireless chip correctly.

lmart, those dmesg results look perfectly correct and healthy - the p54usb driver has automatically loaded, and it appears to have located and registered the correct firmware file at load time.

So why is everyone presuming that the firmware is missing?
To be certain, use ROX to browse to /lib/firmware/ (not /lib/modules/all-firmware/)
Amongst the many files there, you should see isl3886usb

If so, firmware and driver are fine. Your problem lies elsewhere.
The problem might be simply related to using the "Simple Network Wizard" (urgh).
Use the full network wizard, enter the correct WEP encryption parameters, and you may be good to go.

... don't bother to install Frisbee - that's just a "prettied-up" version of the full network wizard.

from my post earlier todayy:
Quote:
sh-4.1# ls -al /lib/modules/all-firmware/isl388*
ls: cannot access /lib/modules/all-firmware/isl388*: No such file or directory

so, something doesn't fit and what that is, is beyond me

will try the full wizard and post the results

/lib/modules/all-firmware/ is not the correct location for the firmware (it's where the firmware tarballs are located, prior to being uncompressed) and thus is not part of the problem.
