Webspace donated for Puppy use

#1 Post by Germanpup »

Dear friends,
I would like this community to take knowledge of the fact that I created an FTP-Account on my webspace located at ftp://ftp.servage.net/ username: puppy password: linux in order to be of help. Maybe someone (with enough upload bandwidth) might want to upload or mirror some puppy related material and link it anywhrere, please do so.
All download traffic charges will be at my expense. That is for the reason that I owe this OS, its developers and its community so much that even my homepage www.weiss-lampertheim.de (German only) would not have been possible without You Guys!!!
Cheers and keep on going!

Cool. I've finally given up on my old host and won't be getting a new one until fall (as I'll be away over summer then starting college when I get back), so I've had my dotpups at my old free geocities account, which is fine except that they don't allow the .pup extension. I'll upload them to here for now, at least until I get a new host when I get settled down and have time for a website again.

Thanks :)

Any particular reason for requiring a log in for downloading? Or did you just forget to set it up so you only log in to upload? Otherwise, thanks again. I have the only two of my dotpups that matter uploaded. :)

the url for ups and downs is:

ftp://puppy:linux@ftp.servage.net (works)

I'd be happy to mirror the forum, only I need technical help for that.

Cheers,

Hi Germanpup,

Thanks for hosting your server for puppy community.
I made a Chinese version puppy 1.09CE and uploaded
it to your ftp server for people interested to try. This
is great. The iso size is about 130M, kind big, because
I put into a lot of Chinese fonts to it. I hope you don't
mind of the disk space I have used.
Thanks again,
nyu

ZorroOfMars reports that the password does not work anymore (servage.net announced a change of FTP passwords by end of May 2008). I will try to get MU's help for this.

I am very sorry about this. They changed the password for security reasons, I'll fix it and post here.

webspace closed down

#17 Post by Germanpup »

I am very sorry to announce that my donated webspace was closed down by servage due to abuse of the account by uploading illegal software. At present the ftp-account is closed but the files are still there (of course not the illegal ones!)
Anybody using this webspace pleas get in touch with me, maybe we can figure out a solution, probably without posting the password in the forum.

Hi to all,

unfortunately this was already the 2nd time somebody abused this account for illegal trades. 1st time it was "only" some movie, now it was an illegal copy of some antivirus program, ironically a windows program such as one can find in places like bittorrent ...

I Think the problem is
1. that I posted the access data publically
2. there are issues with servage, people keep intruding my homepages there quite frequently.

I still would like to support the community and hence would be grateful for any suggestions. As far as the uploaded stuff concerns, all is still there, maybe I can move it some place safer.

I just hate the idea of either myself or this community being dragged into issues of software piracy and such, that is why I now not just open the account back up.

Hallo Joachim,

you might offer someone to look at the space, so you have a kind of admin, moderator.
Maybe some of those guys who keep puppylinux.org running.

On dotpups.de and puppyisos.org (both at servage, too) I use this strategy:

When someone uploaded a file, he must inform me (in your case the admin).
I then move it to the "www" folder (have some subfolders there).
So people do not download from /ftp , but from /www.
So they just see the "right" files, not the junk.

The moderator also might delete those files from /ftp, that sometimes appear there after being hacked.
I often have there an asian game, it even reappears after changing passwords.
Fortunately no other files are deleted, just once it happened.
But this only affected the "temporary" /ftp folder, not /www.
/www is not accessable via ftp in my setup.

If you like to clarify some questions, you also may call me after 19.00 or at weekend.
I can send you my telefone number via PM.
Or we might meet in a Cafe in Mannheim, it is not far from here :)
