Hi Everybody,
I've been searching the net for a lightweight yet fully functional linux distro for my 8 GB Pen-drive. And I always find Puppy Linux.

I've used Puppy Linux Lucid & Slacko. But It doesn't seem to suite me.
Lucid has good looks but not as easy to use as Slacko. And Slacko doesn't have good looks.

Already tried Guydog 5.0.1.
Good Looks but not easy to use.

Trying Precise Puppy 5.4 & FATSlacko 5.3.3 Now.

If you want, you can try Lxpup. Lxde distribution with a slacko 5.3.3 base.

For now, you'll not be able to find slickpet in Slacko 5.4 since it's a beta.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Or as the supplier of portable out houses said, "It may be shit to you, but its bread and butter to me."

And unfortunately, there's also a problem of slippery definitions. Do you mean that Slacko does not appeal to your taste? or that it shows up blurred, or indistinct, or otherwise hard to discern its elements?

It would also help if we know what system you are running Puppies on:
What processor? How much RAM? What graphics? You'll find some applications on the System sub-menu which will examine and report on your system's resources.

Hopefully, the problem you're experiencing is that Slacko --which apparently handles well on your computer-- just doesn't provide a pleasing Out-of-the-box visual experience. If that's the case, there are many things you can do to customize Slacko so that it become "just right for you." The same probably can be said of most puppies.

But before we take up a lot of band-width with customization suggestions, please clarify if your objection to Slacko was aesthetic or functional.

I used LXPup before and I liked it but the problem was that Wine did not go well with PCManFM. So I posted this problem into the LXPup forum thread.
And Jejy69 solved the problem.

I have got a Pentium III Processor & 256 mb Ram & Nvidia 64 mb Video Card.

Anyway no need of another distro. LXPup works fine

jejy69's LXPup is, indeed, a beautiful Puplet. He really does great work. His precise Mate (using the Gnome file-manager) is one of the alternate OSes I can boot into, and I look forward to his creation of a cinnamon flavored Pup. But while I noticed your wine problem on the LxPup thread, not having LxPup on my computer, I skipped over it. Then, while responding it occurred to me that the wine-PCMan problem might be similar to that experienced in Guydog which used emelfm2 as its file-manager. When I got back to the LxPup thread, jejy69 had already responded.

A Similar Problem in Guydog? I've not tried Wine in Guydog. So I've not experienced it. While using Guydog I experienced trouble with the touchpad of my neighbor's laptop too. I was trying to repair its primary partition. As I experienced this trouble I stopped using it understanding that I could not use it as an All-Purpose OS. Then I uninstalled it from my Pen-Drive.

The dpupxprimo's and macpups use E17, so choosing a theme, an icon set,
background image, and desired placement of gui elements, makes them
hard to beat, for easy custom desktops, with solid performance.

Worth a couple hours in the settings, and dragging the individual
panels away from one another, makes it easier to navigate them,
as they tend to open on top of each other, by default.

Balmer should retire in shame, and concentrate on cribbage, checkers,
and feeding angry birds.
