I am quite new in the universe of Linux and I was searching for a VERY light system for my old laptop. I found Puppy Linux someday ago but I want some advice to choose the version that will match perfectly with my computer.

I'm posting from a similar machine (Toshiba Tecra Pentium iii with 256mb ram). I use Racy, but Slacko (and ThinSlacko) work fine on it too.

Both Puppy 5.2.8 and 5.4.3 (non retro) worked successfully as full install on single partition.

I have a Satellite Pro 4200 800MHz 320Mb ram 40Gb hdd. I have XP on ntfs file system. I have frugal installs of lucid 528.005, Lazy, Slacko and Precice NOP which I boot from the hdd using grub. All work but the one I like best and use for nearly everything I do is 528. I am not sure if 528 will run in ram with just 238Mb but someone more knowledgeable can tell you this. I think if I was you and getting used to Puppy I would make a frugal install of the one you choose with a save file and the .sfs file both on the hdd and boot it from the cd. Hope this helps.
