Hi,
Have tried for hours to connect to my Charter Cable WiFi, and just keep going in circles.
Anyone have the time to help me through it? Thanks!
Just can't configure wifi; Tahrup 6; Charter Cable.

1. Please explain what Charter Cable is. Do they supply you with a WiFi router? Is WiFi working in Windows? Do you know what the passphrase is?
2. What type of WiFi adapter do you have in your computer?
3. A statement like "going in circles" isn't very helpful. What exactly have you tried? What has gone wrong?
4. Open a terminal and run the command: iwconfig. What do you get back?

1. Charter is a cable TV/internet provider.rcrsn51 wrote:1. Please explain what Charter Cable is. Do they supply you with a WiFi router? Is WiFi working in Windows? Do you know what the passphrase is?

2. I think the WiFi adapter is b43legacy.
3. I am trying the Puppy Network Wizard. When i scan for a network I get "MyCharterWiFi9e-2G". Then it asks for Profile name, EESID, and I've tried putting the network name (MyCharterWiFi9e-2G) in, the network password in, but can't get connected.
4. iwconfig answer: IEEE802.11bg ESSID: off/any
Mode: Managed Access Point: Not Associated
Tx-Power=20dBm
Encryption key: off
lo no wireless extensions
eth0 no wireless extensions
Thanks.
Did Charter tell you what your wifi password is supposed to be?
What router/wireless access point do you have?
Do you have a computer you can plug directly into the router and are you able to log on to your router?
If you don't have the user names and passwords you need to do the above, you should call Charter Tech Support and get them.
Once you can log on to the router, what I would do is turn off the encryption/wireless password and get it to work that way first. Then once you know you can get that to work, then add a password back in.

Yes, I have the router/wireless access point; MyCharterWiFi9e-2G
The Network Wizard tells me the available network is MyCharterWiFi9e-2G.
I think I am not filling out the Network Wizard Form correctly. Not sure what select a profile to load; profile name ESSID, etc.
Maybe someone could walk me through filling out the Wizard?
Thanks.

Yes, I saw you have to load profile, but not sure I had everything filled out correctly on the Puppy Network Wizard.Galbi wrote:I'm on wire now, but IIRC first you have to fill the profile, and then you have LOAD that profile.
I remember having gone in circles too, but at the end, it worked.
Sorry I can't help you more.
Saludos.
Could someone walk me through the Puppy Network Wizard or use another method to connect to WiFi?
I have the access point name and password.
Thanks.
I'm no Puppy expert.
I had the same "going around in circles" experience until I used "Frisbee" [enter the command frisbee in a console window to run it].
a. It scans for networks.
b. You "select" your routers' network name, and OK it.
c. Frisbee asks you to supply the password, so you type it in, and OK it.
d. Frisbee reports successful connection.
e. Job done.
The above worked on both Slacko-5.7.0-pae and the latest Tahrpup.
