This is supposed to be handled by an Android app made available by Brother but it's not working in my case - their app fails to find the printer - I believe it to be a flaw in their app but they've yet to reply to my inquiry.
I have already explained the situation here. You need to disconnect the printer from the router and use its own networking features - wired or wireless. This would also require that you reinstall the printer in your Puppy clients through CUPS.

Also, turn off sharing in your Puppy CUPS setups. You don't need it anymore.

I have a brother 7860DW wifi enabled multifunction printer. The easiest printing I have ever set up and used is by using the Brother print and scan app. It is working on 4 android tablet/smart phones here.

UFRAW

#1653 Post by buckaroo50 »

I found that UFRAW-0.20 is missing a lib file and does not work with GIMP but UFRAW-0.18 works fine and is not missing any lib files or dependencies...

Anyone else find this to be true?

What lib file does it say is missing?

UFRAW-0.20 works ok for me, when installed from ppm, it also downloads dependencies gtkimageview-1.6.3 and lensfun-0.2.8.

If installed without Gimp being present then it will have these missing library files
libgimpui-2.0.so.0
libgimpwidgets-2.0.so.0
libgimpmodule-2.0.so.0
libgimp-2.0.so.0
libgimpmath-2.0.so.0
libgimpconfig-2.0.so.0
libgimpcolor-2.0.so.0
libgimpbase-2.0.so.0
UFRAW-0.20 installs gimp plugin:

Code: Select all

/usr/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/ufraw-gimp
Opening a raw image with gimp then runs ufraw which in turn loads the image in gimp when OK is selected.

UFRAW has no menu entry, if run from the terminal it give the option to open a raw file, the image can be edited and saved or opened with gimp.

Here's a menu entry for those that would like one, extract it to /usr/share/applications.

animwall_desktop_widget-1.0

#1655 Post by Geoffrey »

Animwall Desktop Widget, a small app that will create a animated gif desktop widget.

It serves no real purpose, it's just a desktop toy.

Select a small file size animated gif of appropriate dimensions, 256 colors or less would be best, as it can be CPU hungry.

it layers itself over the desktop so makes desktop icons and right-click menus inaccessible, use it as a wallpaper if a none active desktop is acceptable.

To use select an animated gif, this will resize the gif to desktop dimensions and a preview image using "gifsicle".

Selecting "Start" will create a script /root/Startup/anim_wall and runs the script, the widget will continue to run at startup.

Selecting "Stop" kills the process and removes anim_wall from /root/Startup.

Use in conjunction with an existing wallpaper and the widget with opacity, Cairo Dock or any other launcher could be used to make it look cool.

pet installs menu entry to Control Panel > Desktop > Animwall Desktop Widget

Here's a few gifs to try, right click image, Save Link As...

I want to try to install the AMD driver on Carolina and the only devx file I found was devx_lina_1.0.sfs . I tried to load it - without saving it , because there was enough RAM - on Carolina 1.2 PAE ( remasterd - no savefile ) but after a few seconds everything was frozen.
Should I rename it to devx_lina_1.2.sfs or is it the wrong file ?

@Gobbi

devx_lina_1.0.sfs is the correct file, there's no need to rename it, it should work fine.
Try it with a unaltered Carolina 1.2, I've not had any lockups unless it was something I did myself.
I've not tried to install AMD drivers, so I can't help, maybe someone else has them or can guide you as to what needs to be done.

AMD's a pretty straight forward process, quite like a standard Windows installation, next, next next. ;) Just give it a go remembering to load devx, which you're clearly attempting to and the kernel headers.

I'll just copy paste a post I made for edoc regarding AMD drivers:
battleshooter wrote:1. Download and load devx and kernel headers.

2. Find, download, and extract your drivers, then run the .sh.

3. When it's finished, exit to prompt and run:

Code: Select all

aticonfig --initial
4. Get back to the desktop:

Code: Select all

xwin
Hopefully you're back in and

Code: Select all

glxinfo | grep direct
tells you "yes"

Let me know if it doesn't work, as it can also be installed a different way, but this is the easier method.
If you have any errors, post them here and I'll see what I can do to help.

In regards to devx, I don't have any idea except maybe try loading devx with a pupsave if your machine is RAM challenged.

Thank's @Geoffrey and @battleshooter :!:

Previously I managed to do it in Lighthouse , so the problem was to correctly load the devx_lina_1.0.sfs . I did that by copying the sfs's files directly to the partition where the remasterd frugal Carolina 1.2 was installed . So , devx and kernel headers files loaded fine .
Then I noticed that it went better to run directly - after I had made executable - the downloaded amd-driver file , instead of exiting to prompt. As recommended in the install_log file I had to go after that to /lib/modules/fglrx/ and run from the terminal the make_insall.sh file . Then I did exit to prompt and have run aticonfig --initial .
Then the video improved indeed . Hardinfo showed the card in the display section , glxgears : 25040 frames in 5.0 seconds = 5107,900 FPS .
There is a glitch still : AMD Catalyst Control Center does not launch and I have no audio through HDMI : the audio part of the sound card was not well recognised like it was in other puppies where I could install it : Fatdog , Lighthouse and LxTahrPup .

I'll keep trying ...

I thought you only have to run /lib/modules/fglrx/make_install.sh if something goes wrong. Were there any errors?

The fglrx module (amd-14.12 ... for linux) installed the video part , but the audio did not installed at all...
The install_log file from /usr/share/ati/ suggested to run in terminal the file make_install.sh from /lib/modules/fglrx/ , which I did - it gave also some warnings ; I did paste them in a second log file . As stated before , the video quality was very good . AMD Catalyst Control Centre was in Control Panel but did not launch .
I ran the executable module directly , clicking on it . When I tried to make it run from prompt - outside X - it warned twice that it found glibc 2.1 . I read on AMD site that it needs glibc 2.2 .

How puzzling. I don't think any of those warnings constitutes an error, so it looks like the driver did install cleanly. You might want to check alsamixer and see if the HDMI output is muted. I seem to remember that happening quite frequently to me.

As for the Catalyst Control Centre, what are the errors when you attempt to launch it from a terminal?

Ahh yes, I see. Original Carolina's glibc is too old. Geoff knows a few ways to trick programs into using the needed glibc version in a different location. I don't suppose you're familiar with the trick Gobbi? Hmm, what situation. Glibc's too old in the original Carolina and kernel's too new in Vanguard.

I suppose you could try update glibc in original Carolina with the pets here if you'd like to be adventurous.

No , I'm not
battleshooter wrote: I suppose you could try update glibc in original Carolina with the pets here if you'd like to be adventurous.
I'll surely try ; does the order to install those pets matters ?

In the mean time I tried something else : In my vlina folder I also keep Chromium 39 and lib6+libstdc6-4.9.2.pet from @kost@s's thread .
So when I saw the error amdcccle gave in the terminal , I installed again Catalyst but first I also installed lib6+libstdc6-4.9.2.pet . In the end I have amdcccle working :!:
The sound through HDMI is still missing but using my monitor through DVI I got analog sound in speakers . I'm really glad

Doing the remaster , however I missed something in the /etc/X11/xconf... files because the remaster starts with vesa module and only after I get out of X to prompt and do aticonfig --initial I get fglrx working ...
I never needed this but I should put a line in rc.sysinit or rc.services in /etc/rc.d/ , but I don't remember where exactly ...

More surprises from you. I wouldn't have thought that would work.

That's weird, I would have thought you didn't need to initialize every time, but if that's what works for you, I think /etc/rc.d/rc.local is early enough. rc.local gets called in rc.sysinit, so it's basically the same as putting it in rc.sysinit, but neater.

Maybe the issue is the xorg.conf created by aticonfig --initial isn't being transferred over with the remaster?

You are right about this , I choose not to make the remaster for my PC only . I run Fatdog on other computers with AMD graphics and the driver works on all of them . In the end I edited a little , some xorg.conf files and I could make a remaster that boots directly on desktop with fglrx . Still no HDMI sound . But it's fine anyway . I could add Compiz .
It goes this way only on the monitor where I made the remaster . To make it work on the other one - I delete those xorg.conf files bounded to the previous monitor and I have to exit to prompt and type :

#aticonfig --initial
#aticonfig --enable-monitor=auto
#aticonfig --swap-monitor
#xwin

After this four commands , fglrx driver works on the monitor . The complainings about the missing or not connected monitor are harmless ...

I tried those pets for glibc 2.20 and it also worked . I could also install the AMD driver . But it doesn't add HDMI sound , so I'm OK with some MB less ... Thank you for the effort anyway :!:
