Looks like a feature-rich CPU and system. Should handle all of your 2014 and beyond needs as you envision.

BTW what kinds of monitor(s) will it connect? HDMI? TV?

Cheers!
It seems to be a nice machine, has VGA and HDMI out, but I can't dual boot with Puppy, I have to disable UEIF and enable Legacy in the bios and Carolina doesn't have the drivers for the Eth0 or Wlan, that's the price one pays for having the latest technology I guess.

Hi Geoffrey,

If you can find the time could you please create a pet or sfs of XBMC 12 ? There are lots of channels which do not work properly in 11. Currently I am using the xfce version of Linux Mint Qiana for thet reason (it is the closest OS to Carolina so far) but it is still 2nd choice. I like the portability of Carolina way better.

So far nobody on the forum has been able to create a carolna installable XBMC 12

Skype

#1417 Post by Geoffrey »

Added skype-4.3.0.37-apulse-lina.pet and skype-4.3.0.37-apulse-lina.sfs to repo.

This uses apulse which adds PulseAudio emulation for ALSA, it seems to work ok out of the box, please test,
the sfs version contains the QT library files, the pet doesn't, Carolina has QT by default so use the pet package in the PPM, if using Carolite with no QT use the sfs version.

@battleshooter,

I think this will need some testing to be sure that bash works ok, I've compiled version 3.0.18 the original version with the fix to full back on if 4.3.26-1 breaks anything, in the mean time I rebuilt the puppy_lina_1.2.sfs with the new bash so I can make sure things like the save file still work, it's been reported elsewhere that frisbee is broken, not having a wireless device that works in Carolina makes it hard to test some things, so if anyone can test it would be appreciated.

Edit: the patch does break Frisbee, even with version 3.0.18 gives

Code: Select all

error importing function definition for
just about everything

I'm working on the Frisbee scripts, I have it working of a fashion, just a few small hiccups to sort as I'm working with the new bash 4.3.26-1 which is giving me a few errors due the differences between it and the original version 3.0.16-1, I'll update the older bash version so that Frisbee runs without error or hopefully it will, this will take some time for me to do.

Compiled the latest QuiteRSS-0.17.0-i486 news reader, added to the PPM
Main Changes:

Added: The Newspaper view (View->Layout->Newspaper)
Added: Socks5 proxy support
Changed: News opening in external browser
Fixed: Sorting by feed title in news list

Portable Carolina wit LUKS?

#1423 Post by Dromeno »

I would like to have a bootable USB stick with Carolina which is encrypted, so I can safely put business/financial/private emails on it, carry the drive with me and do not worry too much if I loose it somewhere.

I used to use truecrypt for that purpose but that is not maintained anymore. So I was thinking about using LUKS,

http://balau82.wordpress.com/2011/08/25 ... with-luks/

Two questions:

can LUKS be installed in carolina in a way that it is supported by Thunar (then I guess it would work similar to truecrypt)? I guess a LUKS pet/sfs is needed plus some thunar addon.

more challenging: is it possible to encrypt a complete 2fs/3fs/4fs of a carolina-on-stick with LUKS? That would be a bette encryption than the standard crypto 3fs (which is 128bit and I fear that that is not good enough encryption for todays decryption tools)

@Dromeno,

That looks complex to me, I'm not prepared to even try to figure that one out, it's another learning curve that I don't wish to take on, it may be better to post in the request thread, there would be others that are more capable than me to assist you.

Wouldn't a heavy encryption for the save file and store your important files in a password protected archive do the job.

Added rssguard-2.0.0.3 rss news reader and qtfm-5.5 a lightweight file manager, in the PPM.
