On previous versions of mtPaint I can use 'free rotate' if I want to rotate a whole image but do not have the same option with just a portion (selection) of the image. Do any of the recent versions have the ability to free rotate a selection?

Edit: both new and old versions of mtpaint support free rotate.
What is confusing is the menu that it is under. It is NOT under
'Selection' because it does not effect a selection. It is
under 'Image'

Unfortuately mtpaint rotates the entire document,
however mtpaint acts just on one layer. This has
the benefit of using less RAM but also some effects are
possible as well. For instance use the clipboard to place a
portion of your image in a layer above. (You can
save individual layers)

Now do the effect, like rotation, on the top layer.
Use the clipboard to tranfer a portion down to the original layer.
Delete the top layer if you wish.

Tested compiling in there. Next time, please do differentiate warnings from errors. ;-)
Anyway, the next version will have that group of warnings disabled - for mtPaint code, they do not communicate anything of value.

Versions 3.44.40 and 3.44.41 have a bug - default size for file selector window is set to wrong value (if no saved size in settings file, or no settings file at all). The attached patch fixes it.

And another bug found. :-(
This time, it was there since 3.44.22 - when displaying translated interface, garbage strings appeared as choices in some of radiobutton packs (an overlooked misfeature of gettext got triggered).
The attached patch fixes it.

I just wanted to link back to wjaguars post on theming mtpaint:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 827#341827
ttuuxxx also posted some alternate icons for the toolbars. If anyone is interested I can make a tango themed version.
Check out my github repositories. I may eventually get around to updating my blogspot.

The one thing about mtpaint that I don't like about the interface is
the icon in the settings window for gradient ----> the wide thin icon

It doesn't show if it is activated very clearly in some themes.

This confuses new users.

Here's a picture of the windows version

Version 3.44.49

#44 Post by wjaguar »

New version 3.44.49 on Github
https://github.com/wjaguar/mtPaint/tree/master

I changed the manner of dock window creation. Seems to be working, but I have dim memory of some GTK+ glitches which were the main reason for choosing the original scheme.
So if someone tested if everything dock-related in this new implementation does indeed work as intended (or found something that does not :) ) (especially on GTK+1), that would be much appreciated.

P.S.: 01.01.14 - a critical bug fixed, version reuploaded under the same name.

I was checking mtpaint 3.44.51 with Precise and Quirky and I found that
the theme was causing the boxes to be black. The entries
can't be easily seen. The solution is simple ---> change the GTK theme.

Previous versions have the same problem.

The setting window has the problem as well when there is indexed colors.

The problem in the settings window goes away if RGB colors id chosen.

Also for first time I have a 64 bit version available.
It was compiled in Fatdog630 and the package was
put together in Precise Puppy
