I have made an index file of the attached files of the murga forum (thanks to SFR for the script).
Some statistical data?
Here it is.

That makes me wonder if those files are archived somewhere and still available.
I remember when Puppy's wiki got trashed.
A lot of older information was lost when that happened that would have been good to keep.
As a for instance, try to find files and information on this forum for older releases of Puppy. And that even includes ISO files of the releases.
They seem to have disappeared.
And I would like to see an offer to members of the forum to be able to get those files and related posts before they disappear from the forum.
That is my take on lost files.
I would even be willing to pay for DVDs containing the information as well as the ISOs and maybe some others would too.

I don't think these lost files are archived somewhere. If i try to get the filename using the file index, i do get an empty string - so, it seems there is no longer any information available on which file has been attached at this index.
For the iso files ---> theses files can not be saved on the forum, so they must have been presented as a web-link. If the web-link is broken then surely the file/page is gone.
Only option ---> a user has got such file?
...just to make clear:
I do not intend to sell this information on files at murga (missed or not missed). If i have reached a state to publish, i will do so in the forum. It will be a pet (sfs) containing all data and functions to download from murga etc.pp.

P.S
This then will be the LazY MAID - the LazY (Puppy) Murga-Attachment-(Index)-Downloader.
EDIT:
I must say: i do have really fun at this times...

Discovered maybe a new fact on the attachment index.
Looks like the index of a file changes if removed and new uploaded. Old index seems not to be used again Found several missed files from index 59159-"xfce4scrn3.jpg" to index 59226-"Chromium%20libs%20.png". I am sure they could not have been get lost within the last days.
So, the totally number of lost files surely must have to be decreased. I will make a special test on this.
Here is updated list:

For what it's worth, the last 3 files in your list are screenshots I posted earlier here... http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 444#651444 ..... so they're not missing.
No, these files are not missed. Each named file in this list is not missed. The missed files are the "empty lines".
Sorry for confusing anyone.

After uploading the LazY-MAID 1.0.3 i did update the murga-linux-attachment-list to get the new index of the LazY-MAID.RSH wrote:Discovered maybe a new fact on the attachment index.

But: there is NO new index used, if a new version of an attached file has been uploaded. LazY-MAID 1.0.3 is stored under the same index as 1.0.1 has been stored.
So, as a result, i can say:
All files of those empty indexes are gone. I don't know, if they get lost or have been removed by the user who has attached the file.
Currently there are indexes used from 100 to 59,932. 43,603 files are still available. The difference is 16,329 files. The indexes are starting at 100, so there are 16,229 files getting lost and/or have been removed.

No, I don' talk about presented links in some posts. I am talking about the attachments that every murga-forum-member can add to his posts.8-bit wrote:Could it be that some of the files were hosted on a free hosting site and removed after a period of time?
I have found links that point to files that are no longer hosted on some file sharing sites.

The index file contains only forum attachments, not external links.Could it be that some of the files were hosted on a free hosting site and removed after a period of time?
There's many of them, that's a real loss.I have found links that point to files that are no longer hosted on some file sharing sites.
My guess:All files of those empty indexes are gone. I don't know, if they get lost or have been removed by the user who has attached the file.
If one just updates an attachment, the current id remains intact.
If one deletes and then uploads a new version of an attachment - the old id is lost, but new id is created instead.
That makes sense, at least for me.
Another thing: I didn't think about it earlier, but all attachments from "Truly off-topic" are inaccessible of course, if one is not logged in.
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?mode=attach&id=59897 wrote:Sorry but you are not authorized to view or download this Attachment
Code: Select all
curl -s -I "http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?mode=attach&id=59897" | grep 'filename='
(it's picture of from this post)
So, in the end, I think there's not much to worry about.

Yes, it will not download. But these attachments are listed as well. I was logged on to the forum as i downloaded and updated the index list. So there is no reason, why these attachments should not be listed.Another thing: I didn't think about it earlier, but all attachments from "Truly off-topic" are inaccessible of course, if one is not logged in.
Yes, this makes sense for me, too. And it would be a reason why are so many files have been gone within the last weeks. If one just updates an attachment, the current id remains intact.

That makes sense, at least for me.
Its count is 269 files within the last 4 weeks.
