Fpm2
Hello,
Yesterday I downloaded wheezy Wheezy 3.5.2.6 and made a frugal install on a Lenovo S12 netbook. I like Wheezy a lot and have had only one issue. Fpm2, which works out of the box, gets broken during my tinkering (segmentation fault). When I start from pfix=ram, fpm2 stops working after I set up the wireless. Any suggestions will be appreciated!
By the way, I got a message that wl does not support wpa--but I overrode that and the connection is working fine with wpa2.
Thanks!

It has same kind bug in Upup Raring when I use debian .deb.
I test compiled it from source and several versions seems to allow launching 2 times without giving initial master password. Then it seqfaults. Removing the the config folder allows to start again:
/root/.fpm
My suggestion. Download and install older version from puppy repo and use it:
http://distro.ibiblio.org/quirky/pet_pa ... 5-pup4.pet

I see, nothing to do with the wireless or other changes I made...
The fpm2-0.75 pet does not seem to install properly (no binary appears in /usr/bin and no desktop file in /user/share/applicatons). I don't know if that's an issue with the package manager, or something I screwed up.
Acting on your comment about the config folder, I copied the /root/.fpm folder over from Precise and now fpm2 is working fine. I am running version 0.79 from a directory in /mnt/home, having removed the built-in package prior to attempting to install fpm2-0.75..
Thanks for the prompt reply.

If I want to port this Samsung NB30 Netbook from Exprimo do I want to come here to dpup Wheezy rather than Precise?
I'm giving this to our teen daughter for school work, and she's also an artist & musician & social butterfly (facebook, instagram, twitter, etc).
She's not interested in learning about the OS so it needs to be simple and stable for her to just use - I have a few days to set things up before I give her this Netbook.
WDYT?

I believe laptop tools are something which helps also netbook usage, easy suspend when shutting the lift etc.
Facebook, Twitter etc you use with browser. Just install the browser of the lady`s choice. About music - artist stuff I cant say anything. Application base in ppm is about as new/old in wheezy and precise not big difference. Good choice is also the newest Upup Raring 3.9.9. I have used my time with it now.
Dpup Wheezy should be now quite stable. I think it is good choice.

Seriously, dpup Wheezy is stable but you are working on upup Raring 3.9.9
What's the advantage of upup, access to the Ubuntu repository?

@edoc - Slimboat is a great choice I think for that social integration your daughter is after, I think http://www.slimboat.com/en/. I had no problems with installing it in dpup Wheezy from a recent pet offered on the forum somewheres (I could dig out the link if you want - there are a few dedicated threads to it). The latest suggested upgrade was a tar.gz file, from memory, but I just extracted it into the directory the pet had constructed and it over-wrote and worked fine Qtlibs package was a pre-requisite, from memory, but again no probs using Wheezy's Quickpet.

I do have the Slimboat 1.1.28 PET & the SFS in my Downloads folder, is that old?
Is there any reason to not want upup Raring 3.9.9 vs dpup Wheezy?
I have several computers here in need of an update and want to keep them all, other than the 64-bit one, using the same version.

SlimBoat is up to 1.1.35 so there have been a few bugfixes.
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 9&start=59
I use it sometimes for a "change of scenery" but it is not an essential addition.
I have been using Dpup Wheezy every day for a while now and find it excellent, but I have been testing Upup Raring 3.9.9 and it is looking good too.
One thought that springs to mind is that a teen daughter may prefer the more familiar Firefox in Wheezy over the SeaMonkey in Raring (?).

Oscar in England
But essentially, both are stable, both have access to different repositories, and both would be suitable.
It's mostly a matter of personal preference which I choose?

She's actually used to Seamonkey but if I could figure out how to get Firefox to use the Seamonkey email app for mailto: I'd set her up with Firefox due to Firebug, donottrackme, Web Developer and other addons not available for Seamonkey.
Unless they are fixing Seamonkey so those addons will work ...

md5sum incorrect?
I have just downloaded devx_raring-3.9.9.sfs twice and both times an identical md5sum result - which does not match the one on the download site.

Both work fine on the Samsung NB30 I tested network connection and default browsers, and sound.
upup Raring 3.9.9 has a more finished/sophisticated look to it than dpup Wheezy.
Neither auto-adjusts to the external monitor, I'm not sure if they are expected to since there's a single video card driving both the internal and external monitors.
What this means is that every time the netbook-external monitor combo is powered-up one has to stop and toggle-off the internal monitor & then adjust the window size on the external monitor.
Any chance there is a script somewhere to automate all of those steps through Laptop Setup, etc?
