Help needed writing the Wiki
Great stuff, if you keep prefixing Spanish pages with 'es'. that will be very useful in the future, when some proper native language function is introduced.vicmz wrote:Has the wiki got its own image storage? Many image storage sites close accounts if they aren't active during a certain time.
Oh, this is my first article for the wiki. I'll add more information later. I also modified the Spanish wikka home page to update the information.
Please let me know how I'm doing.
I've added Breadcrumbs at the top, and Category at the bottom on your page:
http://puppylinux.org/wikka/es_Puppy_Linux
As 'español' is the Spanish homepage it should index the other Spanish pages or indexes. (I've added it to the index category).
http://puppylinux.org/wikka/espanol. BTW you can link internally using [[es Puppy Linux|Puppy Linux]] instead of [[http:://www.puppylinux.org/wikka/es_Puppy_Linux Puppy Linux]]
---
You are the first person to use the new page name format that allows spaces ' '. Unfortunately, these pages don't seem to be fully supported in Wikka 1.3.2. For example the automatically generated Category page thinks your page is a link to 'es' with the text 'Puppy Linux', but really it is a link to es_puppy_linux with no text specified. see
http://puppylinux.org/wikka/CategoryEspanol
Maybe Wikka 1.3.3 has better support for this feature. I will PM Raffy requesting the upgrade.
Note, Wikka is changing the page name convention so for links. Link text is now defined after putting a vertical bar '|' after the page title. For example:-
[[es Puppy Linux|Puppy Linux]] -> Puppy Linux
[[SoftwareIndex|Software]] -> Software

With regard to images-
I tried photobucket but that was slow. I will try imageshack. Ultimately I want to a plugin for wikka that can grab all the images and save to a single location. This will remove reliance on the forum and other websites that change image locations from time to time.
At the moment I am posting images to the forum and linking to them. The links have long urls so it's no that convenient. Here's the thread I'm dumping images at-
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=79563
I'm using My Opera photo albums, since I have an email account there that I access frequently and the links seem to be fix. But it would be convenient to have a specific location that doesn't depend on how often the owner logs in or on the TOS. I mean, some photo sharing sites force to put a link of the gallery to the photo, would that be OK?
Agreed, short term I'm just using the forum to store images at the moment. Medium term I need to look into how the wikka software can upload images. Long term I plan to write a plugin that copies all the images linked to a single location, once the software works then ask someone for a place to host them.vicmz wrote:I'm using My Opera photo albums, since I have an email account there that I access frequently and the links seem to be fix. What precisely do you mean by OK? I think it would be okay to use these types of images on the wiki - but not ideal. It might not in okay in that Wikka may not display these images correctly.I mean, some photo sharing sites force to put a link of the gallery to the photo, would that be OK?
Would that count as advertisement? For example, a link with the name of the image hosting site next to the picture, or clicking the picture leads to the image hosting site.darkcity wrote:What precisely do you mean by OK?
I agree, the code to embed images in that way seldom seems to be compatible. I embeded a picture from My Opera in this page, and it worked just because puppylinux.info uses the same code, I can't do the same in murga-linux or the wiki.
Anyway, I'll keep on writing and experimenting.

Re: upgrade
Thanks Raffy, will now be able to report bugs to the Wikka project.raffy wrote:Wikka wiki upgrade to version 1.3.3 is completed. Please report problems here. Thanks.
For example, non-existent internal links still show the same as good internal links.
Good news is that pages with spaces in their names now work properly when generated in Category pages-

the-jub,
I noticed you corrected a FatDog64 link,

BTW the Wikka software is under development, plus it may not be configured in the best way. I'm compiling a list of bugs, PM me or contact the Wikka project if you come across anything. One example is good and broken internal links looking the same, broken internal links should appear with a dashed underscore or in red.

vulnerability
From my inbox:
.. found some Critical Vulnerability on your website .
Bug Type : Cross Site scripting
Checked in : Firefox
OS : Windows
Impact : Cross-site scripting (XSS) is a type of computer security vulnerability typically found in Web applications. XSS enables attackers to inject client-side script into Web pages viewed by other users. A cross-site scripting vulnerability may be used by attackers to bypass access controls such as the same origin policy.

How about create a sticky post where each one who creates or upgrades a package (or puplet) can request to be added to the wiki? That way the Wiki will be always up-to-date and become a nice source for Puppy information...

Raffy ...I use cross site scripting for our website chatrooms to allow then to use another site as the backend. Its a common thing on flash Another example would be grabbing some data from another site and using it as part of a page..eg weather info. Basically it lets one website use information from another so the third party site would need altered data or the asking site would need its scripts changing...in other words the sites involved would need hacking to do anything in which case there is a general security problem and its not really a problem with the system of cross domain permissions as such.

Re: vulnerability
Looking at the html source I can't see anything injected. It could be a vulnerability in Wikka the correspondent is talking about.raffy wrote:From my inbox:.. found some Critical Vulnerability on your website .

@koulaxizis - a 'wiki - wanted pages' thread pinned somewhere in the forum might be a good idea. It would let people know the wiki exists too.

Can someone contact an administrator to do so?darkcity wrote:@koulaxizis - a 'wiki - wanted pages' thread pinned somewhere in the forum might be a good idea. It would let people know the wiki exists too.

There is a troll hijacking the Spanish forum and wiki home. He's systematically trying to discourage other people from making their own Puppy derivatives and forcing Spanish users to exclusively use his derivative, forum and IRC channel as the only Spanish ones (not long time ago another troll wanted to wreck murgalinux in favor of his own site, too - this is a similar case). He continuously deletes wiki links to resources other than his. See revisions:

Re: other side
His complaint is on the basis of a community flag derivative. He insists to be aknowledged as the leader of the community, when there's actually no such thing. He invents rules on his own to center all interest in his work only and harass anyone who goes against his pretentions.raffy wrote:It looks like the other side is posting a complaint, too:

What would you guys feel if for example one day Runtt wakes up and says "from now on I'm the authority for everything Puppy-related, everyone has the obligation to use my Macpup which is now the only official community project and not Pemasu's or 01micko's crap which are personal projects without own forums and sites, and their content is no longer allowed to be on the Puppy wiki which also now belongs to me the only one who can set wiki policies, and everyone that posts anything not related to me and my work is opposing me and therefore is a troll." I'm not devaluating his work, but if there are more Puppy resources in Spanish language and not only his, they should be on the wiki for everyone to know, shouldn't they?
