Python install trouble

#1 Post by markling »

Pardon mine fronch.

Went to install Python. Not simple. Instructions say to use Quickpet or something. I'm not sure if I have this anymore after deleting all my desktop icons to get rid of clutter.

Other instructions say to install a devx sfs file for your version. There are numerous devx files for my version: http://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/puppy-5.3/. It doesn't say which one is *the* one. I downloaded the one with the simplest filename. It doesn't work.

So I followed the instructions to install an sfs file in a full HD install, which is what I have. The instructions where here: http://puppylinux.org/wikka/HowtoAddSFStoFullInstall. They said click on the sfs file to mount it. But clicking on the sfs file doesn't mount it. At least not obviously to me. It it would have to be veryh obvious for me to know about it. It opens the sfs file into a blank text editor window. The instructions then say to go to the mounted directory. But there doesn't appear to be any mounted directory.

The other option for installing the devx file was to get an sfs loader. I tried in the packager manager but it wasn't there. The devx file wasn't in the package manager either. I think its about time to give up.
