My pleasure, as always.
01micko wrote:There is definitely some bug where the save file is created but not being mounted to save the session. It's possibly a timing issue.
Hmm, that could be it. The HDD is a SATA device, the USB memory keys were connected to USB 2 ports. There's quite a difference in transfer speed there, could explain why I didn't see the problem on the latter devices.
01micko wrote:I think I'm onto it so if you can bear with me for a couple of days I'll post some shutdown scripts that attempt to fix the problem. You will be able to install them pfix=ram. Stay tuned.
I'll keep an eye out. May be busy the next couple of days though, got a model railway show on.
01micko wrote:BTW, did the new carl9170 firmware improve your wifi at all? It is in the 5.3.7.1 build.
TBH, I haven't extensively tested it yet as I've been concentrating on the save file issue. It does connect and seems to run at a good speed but I haven't been running sessions long enough to see if there's a return of the problem.

Is that save on an NTFS partition a brand-new one created in 5.3.7.1 or one created in an earlier version of Slacko but upgraded? As I've reported above, I've been having trouble creating saves on NTFS partitions but I was using the non-PAE Opera version of 5.3.7.1.

Jades,

The FF (firefox) version is identical to the the version you use, (ie NON PAE) except for the browser. James is using a significantly faster machine though.

I haven't had much time to look at your bug but it might even fix itself with the addition of the gconv-modules.cache. I'll post a pet that should be used pfix=ram in your case.

It does speed up many glibc related processes, which is nearly everything!

Yes, a totally new savefile on a recently defragmented NTFS partition.

I generally don't mix NTFS and Linux but this is testing...........

Tried installing pwidgets... both 2.3.8-pr20 and 2.4.0
Both installed and worked OK except both will not show the 'weather icons' (just a small rectangle box appears.)
Me too.

I've been trying slacko5371 (beautiful job Micko, works perfect for me in every way except this one.

Never being one to let cluelessness stand in my way I decided to fix it. I started by subbing in other fonts in pdingobats place in the weather widget and they worked but giving letters in place of pictures. So I figured it has to be a problem with pdingobats, right?

Fearlessly I downloaded Fontforge from the PPM and set to work. (BTW you need the devx file loaded to get it working). 300 items on the menus, I think I figured out about 10 of them :? , but that was enough. I now have pdingobats2.ttf which works with Slacko5371! :D Mind you I only know it works for cloudy skies and snow. May have to wait awhile to see the other icons.

I've made pdingobats2-0.01.pet which I will upload over in the Pwidgets thread with instructions. Will link back to this thread after I have it done.

Cheers, J

Note: See here for the .pet and instructions.

Nice job jrb :)

You think the original author would have fixed it eh? Lazy so'n'so he is!

Did you find the original .pfd file? It's buried somewhere in this forum.

Anyhow, I guess we can have pwidgets-2.4.1 in the repo now. I'm amazed that the ancient conky still works.

Cheers

The original author probably wouldn't stoop to using my technique. I started with a font that worked (open source of course) and pasted in your icons and changed the Font Info. Down and dirty, thats me.

I'm running 4 machines on one monitor with a KVM switch. One of the machines is a file and PXE server. With any Xorg past 1.7.7 xorg freezes up when I switch to another machine on the monitor. I just load the xorg_base and xserver from spup-051 over the top and I'm good to go. Might be useful for others with video problems :?:

o1micko,

Just a quick report - was able to boot into desktop with no issue on this Brookdale chip. Opened some windows, no initial problems. Unsure if you have incorporated the "Brookdale" fix into 5.4 (or 5.3.3 for that matter), but first run seemed ok. I've never had an issue with 5.3.1, and very few with 5.3.3 (and those were mostly flash related crashes). Thanks. Should you need anything specifically, just let me know.

No Shutdown

I have the latest build of Slacko in a frugal installation on my hard drive. As usual, Puppy is the most flexible, most efficient Linux I have used --and I have used many, including many Puppies.
A problem, however, has come up: Nothing happens when I try to close Puppy. Neither the reboot option nor the shut down option does anything at all. I have to simply turn the machine off (a Dell Optiplex GX520, by the way).
