Sounds like a resolution problem.

ctrl+alt+backspace out to xterm and run 'xorgwizard'

when done, type 'xwin' at the prompt and hit enter.

repeat as needed.

There are also more precise tuning measures for specific machines. Searching google for your laptop and XORG config might get some more insightful help.

You could be helped using a program named grandr and exists
as pet to use on Lupu look for it in slacko or the other puppies too.

It allow you to make fast changes when you shift from lookin at the Netbook
and on the external screen.

I have an Acer D255 and also Acer D250 and Asus EEEPC 900
and life became much easier when I started using that one.

I can have one resolution on the netbook or to shut it down
and another on the external.

I will not follow the thread. Wanted to share this in case none else
mention grandr
I use Google Search on Puppy Forum
not an ideal solution though
