Hi Jejy69

Testing Wary LXDE on my 10yr old Acer laptop and it is very nice.

All seems good and runs fast, normal browsing, downloading and file management looking very good.

Same for Racy LXDE - all your pup's are Luvly.

Now to try the latest XFCE - think that will good too.

Thanks for all your efforts - very much appreciated.

Very best regards - Ray

Hello ! :)

Ray MK : You do not have issues despite the ancient PC ?
I need to fix the first boot, to start with Xorg.
I think I'll try to create a SFS, I force people to download whole ISO, and it's not very cool. :?
It will be better for everyone, that way no need to install Puppy, no worries for personal data.
I will try to create SFS for several versions of Puppy.
Thank you all for trying this!

Wow, latest Chrome version ! Thanks Playdayz ! I love it ! :D

Thanks James C :)
You need to take the final version (V7), I installed LxLauncher in V6, and it's not really fun ...
Or as James C has shown you, follow the manipulation in the post said.

Hi Jejy69

Really like the XFCE version best - extremely well done - fast and no excessive CPU activity - very nice.

All running cool too - outstanding.

Personally I like waryLXDE booting straight into vesa.
It boots and loads very fast - so as a very quick and easy to use rescue OS - or to get onto the internet really fast - nothing is better.

I rarely use save_files - mostly run live frugals from sda1 - booting with grub4dos.

So nice to have such a good selection of puppy's.

Many thanks again for all you have done.

Very best regards - Ray

Tu parles français, toi ?

Bonjour.
A bientôt.

You did not even try, so do not say anything! How can you judge also deliberated without concrete advice. That you are not agree with what I am doing you do not like gnome or LXDE, ok, but it's not a reason to insult the work of others! Frisbee is a very good and reliable software. If you would read a minimum, which I doubt you would have seen that Frisbee is fully functional.
I think if it's down to the work of others, you can refrain yourself.

Oh, and we are on the anglophone part, not French. In case you did not know, English is the international language.
So make an effort if you do not want to sound completely stupid to see the world.
Ils ont appris le français à l'école. Nos amis anglophones vont être ravis de mettre en pratique leurs études de langue.
And you ? The community should adapt according to you? It is you who is not in your place and learn English and politeness.

Jejy69

I will finally get to try all of your derivatives this weekend. :D

Which is the last iso at sourceforge for the CheckMate based on slacko, ChekMate-finale-v7.iso or ChekMate-finale.iso?

Size differences in 3 different versions

#148 Post by oligin10 »

Hi Jejy69, not sure if I have missed this somewhere, but I was wondering why the differences in size between Slacko, Wary and Racy? I have only tried the Slacko version so far, and I must say, it is Fantastic! Please don't burn yourself out, we can use you here! Thanks for all your hard work, Rob

Hello ! :)

2byte, it is true that I have not been very precise for that. The final-V7 is the latest version.
I made a mistake in what I thought to be the final version, I'll delete the iso.
The good iso is the "Finale-V7". :)

oligin10, for the size, Wary and racy need more dependencies, that's why they are bigger.
Otherwise, the difference lies in the fact that Wary and Racy are built for older PCs.

Thanks for the support ! :D

@Jejy69
Probably the coolest (size-wise) way to update to latest version (for any within the same base such as slacko, racy or wary) is an xdelta. It's a judgement call, depending on how much dif there is between versions

firstlook (CheckMate-Racy)
Some likes, some not-so-much. Menu - I think I'm going to break an xml or two and generally go for a 'traditional' pupmenu with things in the usual places (and sure I can fix that jwm menu not having icons in the top level.. did it before with xfce4, but my way is a kludge that could surely be done better with a script). Absolutely going to add some things (xfe and add-ons at least, plogout and htop). Otherwise it's quite decent (and my first Racy )

on the subject of dev repo, wot no Jejy69? ;)

@ `f00 :
I'll try Xdelta, I didn't know this software.

A traditional menu ? Like JWM ? :)
 For icons, you must edit puppy-x.directories in /usr/share/desktop-directories.
I had nothing added to maintain a slight ISO. But if you agree with more software, it's Ok :)

Checkmate Finale v7

#154 Post by oligin10 »

Hi, sorry but you have an older version. Go to first page, and download latest version, Checkmate Finale v7 from July 27th. Good luck! I have had the best luck with this version, Canon MP620 works great! Thanks, Rob

vicmz wrote:I have just installed Opera and the fonts are invisible, as shown in the picture below. It was a .deb package, I'm going to try a Slackware version.
Hello, vicmz.

That will happen with GTK and ROX as well. Some opera skins "impose" their colours on the desktop environment scheme and the result is that the menu entries (anything character, really), appears invisible.

The solution is to change the opera skin. "O'Simple" and its derivatives are a good choice to start with. They're not necessarily pretty, but I found that they never obscured the fonts.

Conversely, rather than changing the opera skin, I sometimes changed the GTK theme with good result, but I don't know the Checkmate environment, so I'm at a loss to give you any advice.

Best regards.
