Trying to install a pet seems to cause major instability and gnome-terminal stops working.

At the beginning, I thought the Dhcp was the source of the problem.
I did wonder whether it is may be because this puppy seems to be creating devices eth1 and wlan1 rather than the eth0 and wlan0 that every other puppy (including slacko) creates....no idea why this would be....

Cheers

p.s. I'm also getting the attached error message about a missing configuration from some of the utilities in the Control Centre....

Seems to be working fairly well.Browsing with several tabs open, including streaming video, and no crashes yet.Was kind of used to Epiphany but no problem figuring out the tricks for a new browser. :)

I've installed various pets....Firefox and a couple of games......no difficulties yet.Installed Firefox but still using QtWeb.....

@ Terryphi : Instability ?! Ouch... Have you started with pfix=ram? Would it be possible to know the application you have installed ? What happens exactly ?
I have not encountered such trouble after installing a package, someone else has encountered this problem ?
:)

@ Peebee : I don't understand why... I do not understand why, I'll try with pwireless.

For the Gnome Center Problem : Puppy has a fairly specific, and am having trouble with polkit / PolicyKit. I am not knowledgeable enough to get Puppy to tame the problem. But I just think around the problem by redirecting the non-functional shortcuts to those of Puppy, as the clock, and the Internet connection wizard.

Cheers ! :)

Ah! James C was too fast! :D
QtWeb Petihar was found by the Francophone part of the forum, and advised me to. He had a good idea.

Well, the bug from installing a package appears to spread?

The Puppy is still operating with a low setting! Yeah! It flies? This is perfect! :D

Resize personal storage file ( /usr/sbin/resizepfile.sh ) does not work with Gnome. However, if it is replaced with the version from Racy 5.3 it does work:

It was only one pet, Filezilla_3.2.0.pet, which caused the problem. Strange, it works with Slacko, Racy, Lucid, etc without problems. Anyway, I have now added Filezilla 3.4 which unfortunately has a ridiculous number of dependencies.

Running really well with Wine, Photoscape, Xsane and my negative scanner. Had a few lock ups processing very large image files but been fine on reset/reboot. Are there any plans to add more functionality? [/img]

Hello stowpirate !

Thanks for tests, wine works perfectly... Cool 8)
Are there any plans to add more functionality?
Mmh, yes.
I need to work more on the control-center, and on .desktop applications.
Maybe add Gthumb 2.12 and Brasero.
If you have ideas, say me ! :)

Question :
Which menu do you prefer?
-Simple Menu ?
-MintMenu ?
-Custom menu ( Applications|Places|System )
-GnoMenu ?

Which one ? :D

Posting not working! There must have been some strange character in my post causing it not show?http://www.btinternet.com/~stowupland/software/ I think it was tilda but this worked?

That was a tad off topic. I installed the other software you suggested all works OK. The gThumb software looks good but is a tad basic compared to Picasa 3.9 running under wine. Anyway I can see it being useful for quick edits.

Kompozer-0.8b1-Lucid.pet installed and works fine :D

Resize pup save not working which could be an issue? tried the other resize option suggested and still not working,

I think a simple menu is always the better option. However the search in the Mint menu for apps is good but it takes up a lot of screen space.

As for applications I use, being a photographer I would like Digikam and ShowFoto albeiet they are KDE stuff! Now there is an idea as never had digiKam or ShowFoto running in any version of Puppy Linux. It is the best photo free editing software

cool puppy. I would love to try it, but it would take to long to download  .

EDIT: I would like to see the Official Gnome Panel, which obviously is not an option. I would like to see an Openbox-GNOME alternative version.

Great OS. For me the best puppy ever. Screenshot running Hugin Panorama creator. The fact you have more control on the desktop compensates for the slight performance hit. It is a tad slow on my P4 1.8ghz 512mb box

Hi Stowpirate !

You can try Mate, it's a fork of Gnome 2, and it is more light. :)

Downloading it now :D

Puppy is great as you only have to drag and drop the contents of iso into a folder, edit the boot file and you have a new OS to try. I must also look at the LXDE version.

I haven't tried this, but based on the screenshots it doesn't seem at all like the GNOME I know.

GeNOME with the MATE desktop is cool though.
