I've just finished uploading the final beta iso to http://grafpup.com/puppydev/puppy-109beta2.iso. As always this is a temporary mirror and I will remove the file within a day or so, so anyone capable of mirroring long term please get it right away and post links.

I'm out of time for today so if someone could post an announcement on the main forum and the wiki it would be greatly appreciated.

So I have. I'll leave the wiki to someone else though

* New community page when you first open FireFox - Nice Embarassed OK I had a little hand/claw in that Smile
Firefox bookmarks and links will be an excellent intro for new users.

* XDG menus taking shape
(I noticed planmaker in there? Text editors are applications?
Also lines everywhere?)

* Black console option

* JWM Configuration Manager updated

Nathan has rushed to get this out on time. Good job - well done!
The final release is 15 May

We need testers and positive feedback NOW
here and on the 109 forum

Will you add the links soon? (I clicked them and got nowhere) Wink

I needed to see the final menu to refine it. I've refined it now and the final version will be cleaner. PlanMaker is there by mistake.

Not only that. That part of the menu is also dynamic, so adding other .desktop fileswith a category of TerminalEmulator will also show there.

This is a community edition. Lior has done some work on it. Nathan has done some work on it.

Is someone willing to do the links? Hope so.

Hi Pups,

Just finished downloading captioned effort, so thought I'd see if I could do something different .... for me, at least. Thanks Mark U. for having your site available for downloading. It's really fast with a cable connection....something like 2 minutes, or so.

I'm a fan of the chroot concept, and I have the latest (whatever they are calling it today) release of Ubuntu on the hard drive with OpenOffice2 and GnuCash installed on it.

I thought I might be able to run the 2 programs at the same time using chroot, so I tried it, and it works.....not that I could ever see a reason for running both at the same time ... just experimenting.

As for the latest Puppy Community effort, it is just great.

So, chroot works, sound works, Rarsa's CUPS printing works, Pakt's/Lior2b's international keyboard works. I think I'm about set. Now I can play/experiment with Puppy2 until that gets up to speed with Puppy2 - Final.

I, like Lobster, really like the Personal Toolbar selections for new Puppy Users when they open up Firefox. These websites.... really get new pups off on the right foot using Puppy.

Also, Firefox updated itself to 1.5.0.3 as soon as I connected to the internet.

Could someone let me know if Thunderbird 1.5 is going to be included in the final version of 109. If not is there a pup available for it?.

Thanks

No thunderbird in 109
- sylpheed is the default

Thunderbird should "just install" from their website

Actually, it's already in this beta. I compiled the source on Friday, and this time when I created the package I added some preferences to the sefault install. Apart from the new start page, I've set it up so that it skips the autoupgrade feature and keeps a very small cache (you can enable updating if you like, but I don't think it should be 'on' by default. The default install has a ridiculously large buffer that sometimes actually crashes the program.).

The menus should be viewed as a work in progress, more of a proof of concept than anything else. I've already created several new dotpups that very easily add themselves to the menu )and remove themselves just as easily). Plus, I've got basically the same menu in five different WM's now. Rarsa's work on this is just awesome, this is going to make so many things so much easier. I'll try not to spill the beans on some of the other benefits since he should get the chance to drop a few bombs here.

There have been a host of contributers to this project. I think it would be a good idea to put a credits list together for the release, to be included in the release announcement, maybe at the bottom of the help page, etc. A lot of what I have done is just pulling disparate parts together and integrating them into the iso, and so even if my name is on the changelog in certain places the work in many cases originated elsewhere. I'm really happy with the level of community involvement that has been recieved and I think it bodes well for the future. It will be exciting to turn all of our collective attention to Puppy2.

Nathan

MU has contributed code on a few fronts, he made the new backgroundsetter and the version of Dillo that we are using came from his hacked source.

Don't leave Pizzasgood out, even though we didn't go for the new ROX. He put a lot of time into getting it working, and now it works great in Puppy.

Tim Criger and Klhrevolutionist have both contributed icons, that I unfortunately haven't found enough time to get into the iso yet but plan on doing this week.

I forgot who contributed the new wallpapers but they need credited, sorry whoever you are.

Don VanWormer updated the trashcan to great effect.

Kwiller fixed the jwm configuration tool.

Don't forget Barry. And he did contribute directly to the project a couple times by making his new packages for Puppy2 available to us.

I know I'm leaving a few out. I'll have to think on it.

Nathan
