How do I save sound volume settings in xtmix?

With xtmix's normal settings my sound is very faint.
When I increase the volume control to maximum everything is fine.
But xtmix does not hold these settings on reboot.
It defaults back to the same original setting.
Is there anyway to change the default settings of xtmix so that sound volume is always acceptable for me on bootup?

you can edit /etc/rc.d/rc.local and add this line:

setvol 0 100 100

type setvol in an rxvt window for more information

And, a year later, with help from the Forum Search feature, this thread has helped me as well, thanks to both of you!

bugman,
I presume you are not using pup2, which does remember volume between boots.

I am using 202 and have used 200 and 201 none of which have saved my volume settings after a reboot. I have been using setvol, but sometimes adjust it down for one reason or another. I would really like it to remember my settings, but setvol is the next best thing.

And 7 months later again it helped me as well :)

I'm just posting so this thread appears at the top of a search, and to thoroughly recommend what GuesToo said - type setvol in a console and find out how to set the other volumes. With my soundcard I have to do:
setvol 10 45
as otherwise audio files are really loud and distorted (default=100) and
setvol 4 100
to get a decent volume again.

But before you mess around too much back up your Puppy as I killed an install by setting volumes for unknown devices (just by typing in the terminal - not putting them in rc.local) - my poor Puppy would not boot.

if the volume settings are not being restored in Puppy 2.x, you could try putting this command in rc.local or even /etc/profile.local:

alsactl restore

Thanks - that makes this thread even more useful!
I use Grafpup, so also have ALSA - I will give it a go, but I think I might actually prefer the previous solution on this particular computer

This thread helped me too. Hadn't heard of setvol and now I'm using it in Slacko 5.6
