I wonder if that one is easy to change to Puppy then?
Did not Barry work on an Mk802? Or maybe it is Mele 1000?
I use Google Search on Puppy Forum
not an ideal solution though

The first mention of porting Puppy Linux to MK802

The first mention of porting Puppy Linux to MK802 over month ago

The guy in this video is well-known in the Mac community.
He edited MacWorld magazine for years. He's one of the
best computer journalists in the US.

http://liliputing.com/2012/07/rikomagic ... -hdmi.html

There are two mailorder houses that have begun to sell
the new version II. Price is reasonable $70US
British and American

Here's a picture of MK802 running Puppy linux

Looks interesting and cool that they
try to solve the overheating by using
small air holes for venting. :)

My main need is to have USB mouse and
USB keyboard and USB external HD
but that one maybe not is needed if
one can save on the SD card. and
later transfer what got saved to the HD.

But what I wonder about is this Hub
that is needed to connect to the standard USB
on MK802 that one need to be compatible with it.

I will wait for reports that it works out first.
Better safe than sorry.

BEWARE! They keep their profit margin up by
not including a power supply. The USB out port of
most computers just doesn't have enough juice
to supply the power needed because there is a limit of 500 mA!!!

700ma to 1000ma is needed at least. Fortunately they're cheap.

Mini X player

#51 Post by LoboGrande »

I order a MiniX Android 4.0 Multimedia Player off of Evil-bay. It shares most of the Mk802 features.

http://www.pineriver.cn/eshowProDetail.asp?ProID=1531

The one I ordered is a newer 1GB DDR3 version. I hope to run either Lucid Puppy 5.2.+ on it or maybe Akita Linux off a micro SD card since it's a single core CPU.

I'll keep you guys informed. This looks a serious option for off grid applications as it only draws 800 mAH @ 5v.

...er, neither of those are compatible. ARM is not x86. (Wiki those two terms if you don't know what they are ;) )

You're looking at PARM -- Puppy on ARM. TBH I'm not sure if that exists except for RasPi right now.

PARM

#53 Post by LoboGrande »

I see the screenshot with Puppy loaded on the Mk-802 but the article doesn't say which version ie PupPi Alpha 4. The MiniX/1gb DDR3 has got quite a bit more potential on spec than the Raspberry board. There's also the Hackberry dev board over at MiniAnd.com. Will PupPi A-4 work on the MiniX?

I wasn't able to get it to recognize the system software

I would be interested in knowing your experience with trying to
boot with Puppy linux.

You should read my experiences with rooting my Hipstreet Flare tablet.

What am I doing wrong?

#57 Post by LoboGrande »

I followed BK's instructions for writing the PARM OS to a Sandisk, 32gb class 10, micro SD card. The DD wrote 2 partitions to the card, sdb1 is 16mb : eva.bin, mele.bin sys config etc, sdb2 is 4gb in size and had the PARM on it. The MiniX Plus Android recognizes sdb1 but nothing else. BTW for your info, the sdb2 partition was written in ext4. No choice on your part.

thanks for the links i'll read through them in a minute... ididn't get a chance to actually try the puppy build.... i made the boot disk but in doing so i first mistakenly made my 500 gb media hard drive a ~4gb puppy boot img. so sort of dealt with that instead this weekend...

luckily the tablet came pre-rooted and i did update the firmware to the latest 4.0.4 ics build they have... it's a shame i'm not allowed to toy with my tablet at work... days like today i would of had a ton of time.

a 10.6-inch display
a cover with a keyboard is $119

Some of Surface’s specifications look pretty standard: the processor is an NVIDIA Tegra 3, paired with 2GB of RAM and either 32GB or 64GB of storage. There’s WiFi a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0, along with a couple of cameras and of course a touchscreen, in this case with a 16:9 aspect ratio – like we’ve seen on many Android tablets – and running at 1,366 x 768 resolution.

Looks nice. but no touch screen, that would be ok at $249, which equates to £159 - but not at £229, which is £70 too much.
Why are they trying to stiff us in the UK?
At $249 (£159) I’d buy it - but not at £70 more - they shouldn’t try to con us in the UK.

When they and others like iCon learn we don’t like being stiffed, they might start moving some real quantity in the UK. Meanwhile US enjoy.

JFI - look at this - a 10“ touchscreen laptop for £149.
http://www.ergoelectronics.com/products ... IFMXnvB4yg

Not quite so snazzy - but not too bad for £149.

Best regards - Ray

Good review of Samsung chromebook

http://www.slashgear.com/samsung-series ... -20252951/
You’ve got a VGA camera built-in for average video chat on the web (on
Google+ Hangouts, of course) as well as a full-sized HDMI port for video
output. You can connect to this device with 1 USB 3.0 port, 1 USB 2.0
port, and Bluetooth 3.0. Inside is a Samsung Exynos 5 dual-core
processor – this is the next generation of processors working for mobile
devices Samsung introduced last year and made available here in 2012,
only available on this Chromebook thus far. The next-newest after this is
a Samsung Exynos 4 quad-core which you’ll find on the Galaxy Note II.
