Studio 13.37 is out!

#1 Post by Announcer »

Everybody's favorite commercial Linux distribution is back with a new release.

Studio 13.37 (pronounced "leet") is based on Slacko 5.3.3, which in turn is based on Slackware 13.37 (hence the version number). However, it is not a remaster, but built from scratch from the ground up.

New features:

- 32- or 64- bit realtime kernel (3.2.5-smp-preempt-rt)
- all audio production and video editing programs updated to latest stable version or better, compiled specially for Studio 13.37
- contains 14% Slacko 5.3.3, tiny RAM-based OS built from Slackware 13.37
- performance exceeds that achieved by all previous versions
- “multimedia extras

Somebody ought to buy this and then upload it and make it available for free. I guess you do get a flashdrive for the price, but an iso t to download would be nice too. I mean, if i were to sell nice LightScribed copies of my puplet on ebay, i would still keep the iso available for download at no charge. Its a tough one: the spirit of linux vs a reasonable reward for ones efforts.

Just some questions:

Why does the GIMP needs to be set in the Multimedia Menu instead of the Graphics Menu (did already irritate me on puppy studio 3.3)?

Why does... (same Question on InkScape and Xara)?

Does the openshot find the libmp3lame (in puppy studio 3.3 it doesn't)?

Did you create a video using openshot?

Is there any way to get this one, installed on USB Stick, without the need to use online-banking (i do prefer not to submit any of my bank-account-data using the internet)?

I feel that this announcement should stay.
Many people would be happy to pay the $29.99.

The old version is >> $9.99....be quick.

http://www.getstudio1337.com/studio-4-b ... le-on-now/

""""""

I still believe that it should state >>> based on Puppy,
but in the end it is great software, my reasoning here is based
on the 3.3 version?????

So I expect the new one to be good.
As a matter of goodwill you should send Micko one
on the understanding that he won't do the dirty on you and release it.

Number one....he's a good bloke.
Number 2 he is a muso...and would appreciate it.

And last....nothing like a bit of goodwill.

lowtech logged in again

#6 Post by nancy reagan »

Lowtech always manages to log in again.

BE AWARE.

What about sharing revenues with micko the maker of slacko ?

Of course NOT.

Etc.

I am no copyright lawyer, but I believe this is perfectly consistent with the spirit of gpl and open-source software, that it can be used as the basis of a commercial release if proper credit is given. In fact, that it is based on Slacko 5.3.3 is an indication of the quality of Slacko 5.3.3 and may bring Slacko and Puppy to the attention of more people. I think many Puppy users and members of the Puppy community would want to be notified of Studio's availability.

(The previous version, by the way, was based on Lucid 5.2.8, as I recall anyway, and I was happy to see it.)

a quick mention of puppy on the announcers website wouldn't go a miss - considering all the hard work gone into slacko.

you talked totally differently when lowtech (who, after he was banned, always logs in under different names, lately even with "lowtech" again) named his studio "puppystudio".

Never knew that this FORUM WAS MEANT FOR COMMERCIAL ADVERTISEMENTS ?

Studio seems very much like what Crossover does; they begin with the open source wine and then add tweaks and convenience features. I bought Crossover because I think it adds function to wine. Of course, they also feed all of their tweaks and fixes back into the wine project.

At least CodeWeavers/CrossOver prominently mentions that it's "powered by" Wine...

http://www.codeweavers.com/about/
CodeWeavers believes that you should be able to run your favorite Windows software on whatever operating systems suits your fancy. We sell our CrossOver product, for Mac and Linux, to make that possible. CrossOver is powered by an amazing open-source technology called Wine, and we are proud supporters of The Wine Project. We are headquartered in a 100-year old foundry building in St. Paul, Minnesota, with developers worldwide.

indeed, they should get paid, also. More in fact, as they are contributing to the creative commons. announcer is getting paid for maybe 50% his work and 50% the work of someone else, plus not acknowledging it properly.

Would you feel differently about studio if 50% of the profit was donated back to BarryK?

Would you feel differently about studioech" again if 50% of the profit was donated back to BarryK?

No, for lowtech, (who, as I said before, was banned earlier from this site, but manages to log in time and again under a false avatar, and recently even under "lowtech" again, which nobody seemed to notice) is the only one who asks for money for his puplets.

And silly to suggest "if he would give 50% to BK" so one can fancy all kinds of rippled ideas for he or she who does this or that way. (And if so, how could you trust one like him ?)

Even if it were allowed to sell puppies, I would at least suggest that this forum is not a marketplace with FREE ADVERTISING. Go somewhere else promoting your merchandise.

Besides lowtech has caused the forum a lot of trouble in the past for which a refer to the thread I mentioned earlier.

So if you suggest an arrangement for lowtech, which ones would your suggest for the other developers testers and helpers ?

There are many free alternatives such as ArtistX and Musix.
They are not puppy based but work well.

Linux should be free all the time and to make money, learn from Redhat who earns from service fee.

Yeah! but reading that.....
" I personally wish him no ill, he can even make money, "

See ....I am consistent.

So no regrets from me at that time or now.

Hey! and what a mouth I have.
Not here just to be helpful.

Or as my wife says..." my best and my worst feature. "
Women....what is she on about???

But moving on, many musos appreciate his work.

Good software should be acknowledged.

John Murga is a good bloke and a smart one.
I'm sure that being one of our first developers >> MeanPup ,
beside Barry, he knows how hard it is to release something of
the previous quality of Puppy Studio, and this new one now.

And it is his forum....he is not easily swayed.
His belief in Puppy, his money, his time keeps us all here.

And guess what....paid for by advertising these days.
Enough to pay for his server, and 2 beers a year.
He's using us up.

The price is fair for worldwide shipping.

And I believe that Micko is getting a copy >> gratis.

So stop the whining.

Chris.
