Hi Fred
Yes, by right-click on an item > "Download selected video".
It will be downloaded by default to cde-root/.
Thanks Fred, just tried it and it works a treat.

Regards,

Ken.

Don't know how you get that number, not correct, youtube-viewer_3.3.1.pet is only 4MB !

Hi Fred - sorry to be easily confusable ( :? ) but is that pet a new version of the youtube-viewer (as the link suggests) or is it definitely a version of the gtk-youtube-viewer? (I haven't used these things before and need to be sure i am grabbing the right item)

cheers!

Hi greengeek, yes, a bit confusing maybe.
The pet contains both (same as the cde-package contains both, btw), gtk-youtube-viewer (GUI) has Menu entry (Multimedia) and the command youtube-viewer can be run (with options) from terminal.

Another 855GM-video laptop works at 720p with Youtube-Viewer

#308 Post by sindi »

ARC200 Gateway from 2004 - low-end budget model, very lightweight.

We just replaced the hard drive (again) and proved that the internal pcmcia wifi slot is bad (with three cards) and that the first pcmcia card is nearly dead but finally got it working with wifi.

720p works perfectly, as with the DELL 1150. Lupu has a buggy Intel video driver but Wary and Tahr work well. The 600Ms with ATI 9000 video can only manage 480p though they test out a bit faster cpu.

65% CPU (1.4GHz) and about 60% of memory (1/3 of that is for X).

Next test - Inspiron 8200 from 2002 with discrete Nvidia, and still slower CPU.

Magic.

youtube-viewer with wary and lucid puppy always 720p

#309 Post by sindi »

some time recently all my videos have been playing at 720p on two laptops that use more than 100% of cpu to do that, in Lucid and Wary and even DebianDog Wheezy. I tried --resolution=480p -res=480p 4 etc. (can't easily access help files from Puppy Linux). Youtube-viewer is therefore unusable because it is completely out of sync and even the sound is jerky.

360p also displays as 720p.

gtk-youtube-viewer does not usually play anything at all.

For a while, my 2004 Sony S260 played properly at 720p but it is very jerky now.

What did I do wrong or has Youtube broken things again?

Youtube in palemoon is jerky even at 360p on my newest (2008) laptop.

Some youtube videos play in maximum resolution despite what you request.

I experience this most with videos from P!nkVevo.

I guess the video originator has the ability to specify the forced resolution of the video. I guess they assume that the browser/PC has the resources to cope.

In the case of P!nk - she is a bit of a hard ass so I guess her attitude is "if you can't keep up - tough sh*t"

I am still buying her next album but it p!sses me off that I can't get her video...

Hi all, here's improved youtube-viewer "cde-package" (download link at bottom of this post) I earlier shared here:
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 640#987640
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
EDIT 2018-10-18: Download link below replaced, some small changes:
- Added icons for gtk-youtube-viewer that were previously missing
- Includes updated youtube-dl
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For a part, youtube-viewer is depending on "youtube-dl".
However it was earlier included in the package, it couldn't be used by itself. Now it can, for example to update youtube-dl (and to download, see below):

Code: Select all

./youtube-dl.cde -U
(latest youtube-dl is included, btw (2018.05.09))
Also included "youtube-get2", a frontend for youtube-dl (yad GUI)
Content of ReadMe-youtube-viewer_youtube-dl.cde (inside the package) :
Run youtube-viewer.cde from terminal, for example:

./youtube-viewer.cde --res=480p # resolution 480p
Or:
./youtube-viewer.cde --res=480p -d # resolution 480p and download only video
Or:
./youtube-viewer.cde --res=480p -d -dp # resolution 480p, download and play video

For full help:
./youtube-viewer.cde --help

--------------------------------------------

Run youtube-dl.cde from terminal, for example:

./youtube-dl.cde --help

./youtube-dl.cde <options> <url>

To update youtube-dl, run:

./youtube-dl.cde -U

--------------------------------------------

youtube-get2 is a simple frontent for youtube-dl (yad GUI)
Run youtube-get2.cde by just clicking on it or run from terminal:

./youtube-get2.cde

Download: (updated 2018-10-18 )
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/4qv ... ar.gz?dl=1

P.S. Don't know if updated youtube-dl will solve the problems described in last posts, maybe it does.
EDIT: @greengeek, I tried PinkVevo video, and still it plays at maximum resolution, no matter what you specify, so no improvement...

Hi.

It has nothing to do with any subject of the vids.

youtube-dl is funny that way: it'll stop working if you do not update it...

It may have worked ok for you at 11:43, but if a new version was uploaded at
11:44, it'll give you an error when you try using your "old" version at 11:45.

So do like it says in your error message, try

Code: Select all

youtube-dl -U
?

I did try that but no joy:

Code: Select all

# youtube-dl -U
bash: youtube-dl: command not found
#
I presume I just open a terminal in /root and type that command. No need to cd into a special directory first?

Hi greengeek, not sure if it's about the yt-viewer cde package, if it is, see here:
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 640#991640
For a part, youtube-viewer is depending on "youtube-dl".
However it was earlier included in the package, it couldn't be used by itself. Now it can, for example to update youtube-dl (and to download, see below):
Code:
./youtube-dl.cde -U
But I don't know if this will solve the problem though.

EDIT: Looking better at the error output you posted, I don't think it has to do with the cde package, but what did you use then ?

Fred
