Loading OO or LO from sfs without the usual bootloader

#1 Post by musher0 »

Hello.

Here is a way to load an sfs of OpenOffice or Libre Office, without imposing another layer on your running Puppy -- which may slow it down or passing through the usual "bootloader".

Say you've downloaded the most recent LO using o1micko's specialized wget utility. Instead of incorporating it to your Puppy under /opt, you leave it on an outside disk (such as a pendrive).

You download, install and run the script from here : http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=77054, and you're all set.

You're as mobile as can be, and your Puppy_save file doesn't suffer a hit.

Accompanying icons and *.desktop files are included in the pet archive.

This same two-line technique will work also with any self-contained sfs (the SoftMaker Suite being another example). Which explains the sub-title about "Portable, the Puppy way".

If there's a need, leave me a note and I'll translate the rest of the French message concerning it.

Enjoy!
