How to get Epson C42UX USB printer to work?

#1 Post by oldguy »

I cannot get the printer working using the printer wizard. The printer is an Epson C42UX usb. I selected the usb device in the wizard, and the defaults for an inkjet printer. The problem appears to be with setting up the printer in PDQ. I get the message the PDQ printer definition file /etc/pdq/drivers/ghostscript has been created with a filename ijs-escp2-c42ux. The script states the printer filename needs to be selected when adding printer in PDQ. It states from the printer add printer menu, select ijs-escp2-c42ux. The only printer on the menu is;

myprinter olddeskjet caron

I tried manually adding a printer before, but must have gotten the location wrong.
Any help would be appreciated.

og,

if you run xpdq, then:

select a name for your printer -->next
select printer driver --> next
paper size --> next
local-port --> next

then if you hover the cursor over the "name of device" field, you'll
see /dev/usb/lp0 & /dev/usb/lp1 as options. if you try one of these as your device, then select finish, then select your device as "default printer", does that work?

I went through the script and selected postscript generic, the job status shows the job as finished, but the printer did not start or print.

I had tried this before, and had forgotten about it when I posted my message. I also changed to lp1 and still did not work. Thanks for the quick reply.

you might also want to checkout the linuxprinting.org link for you printer:

http://linuxprinting.org/show_printer.c ... ylus_C42UX ,

where a couple of posts seem to suggest it works straight away with cups.

then follow rarsa's install instuctions here:

http://www.murga.org/%7Epuppy/viewtopic ... light=cups

Thanks for the information, I finally got the file downloaded (gimp-print) and should not have a problem now. I did have difficulty with unzipping the files, kept getting errors. I found out the command works if the v is left off. So instead of
-zxfv I used -zxf and did not get an error and the files unzipped. I am using Puppy linux 1.08.
