How can I resize both the desktop font and the one within the Rox-Filer folder view? At the moment, the font is just slightly too small for easy viewing, even using a 800x600 screen resolution.
I've managed to enlarge the font running under GTK by altering various parameter files; Xdefaults, Xresources, gtkdiffrc, gtkrc, which has created a larger more easily viewable text menu in several programs. I've also used set global font size in an attempt to enlarge the overall display. But, try as I might, I cannot enlarge the font on the desktop, the one regularly viewed on a day-to-day basis.

You could have a look at .jwmrc.

In root click on Show/hide hidden files and right click on .jwmrc and open it as text.

Right click in any Icon on the desktop, select "Rox filer | Options" and then go to the Pinboard tab. there you can change the colours.

I didn't see any option in the rox configuration file, the .gtkrc-2.0 file is ignored by rox, The Set global font size utility does not affect rox. etc.

I think this is something quite important to address. Accessibility is one of the basic principles of usability. I am sure there is a way. I will keep investigating.

Download rox241.pup. This release of Rox-Filer 2.4.1 has the answer, both resizeable desktop fonts, their colour and, an extra bonus, even the capacity to use some themes.
The package was released by GuestToo, Jan 14th, 2006.

Install. Then, right-click on Home.
Then, Options.
Pinboard.
Directly beneath Appearance - 'Use Custom Font'.
Select the desired font.
Save.
That's it.
It looks good. As someone with less than perfect eyesight, this will help considerably.

I don't know how I missed it. I actually tried also with Rox 2.4 to see if it had an option or if it would respond to setting the font in .gtkrc-2.0.

I assumed Barry put the latest version of ROX in Puppy2. I'm using Puppy2 alpha but it looks like it's the old version of ROX, without the 'set font' option. Rats.

There is one small problem with installing Rox-Filer2.4.1, though. Having installed it, I've now discovered that several of the symlinked icons have disappeared from their respective desktop programs and, from a quick glance, more from within several folders.
I'm not sure, but I think someone has already reported this, and a quick way of restoring the lost links. Was it deleting gtkdiffrc, gtkrc and allowing the files to regenerate? Can anyone help?

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, after installing the patched 1.2.2 and restarting, I found myself back with the previous type program, which does not have the set font feature I required. Until now, I've been using Puppy 1.08 With the IceWM manager. I Thought I'd try a small experiment and try running Rox-Filer in a 'fresh' Empty Crust under JWM. Not only did 2.4.1 knock out several icons (mainly Dillo, Firefox) but it removed the dragonfly theme from the desktop, leaving a pale blue background. I then used the 1.2.2 retro patch. It did restore the icons, but not the background. Alright,that's easy to put right but, it still poses a problem.
from my point of view, even though the latest Rox-Filer 2.4.1 may cause a few small problems, it's overall benefits are such that I will continue to use it. Easily configuring desktop fonts and those within Rox are it's greatest asset. Equally, the series of (as yet untried) small add-ons also have great promise, along with the possibility of theming for even greater clarity. If the problem with removed icons can be cleared-up, then this latest version of Rox is a clear winner.

Puppy 109 however will stay with Rox 1.2, as it is more compatible with other programs like Torsmo, that "paint" to the root-window (Background).
They don't work with Rox 2.4.

After upgrading to Rox 2.4, I had to drag some new icon-pictures to the icons on the Desktop.
This is no problem for me, as I just used it because I wanted to replace the icons with nicer ones (which Rox 2.4 displays better).

I can understand the reasoning behind why Puppy will stay with the older version of Rox.
Unfortunately, it will still leave the issue of resizing both the desktop and Rox's font's unanswered. This is an issue still to be addressed. Clarity is a necessity for elderly or visually-impaired individuals and, I hope, will not be overlooked.
Perhaps there is a workaround, somewhere?

if you were using my Rox 2.4.1 dotpup package, i made it to work with the versions of standard Puppy that existed at the time

i did not make it work with EmptyCrust ... actually, i have never downloaded or installed EmptyCrust ... so if it works with EC, great, but if it doesn't, i wouldn't be really surprised ... especially since one of the things that tends to change between the various versions of Puppy is the background, and to a certain extent, the icons

i would probably disable the Rox background as the default when Rox 2.4.1 installs, but i don't think i can do that easily

i could have set it up so that there is no background configured ... but it looks a bit ugly and unpleasant if i do that ... so if the pinboard config file doesn't have a background configured (which it wouldn't, if the older Rox 1.2 was installed) it adds a suitable background ... this should not interfere with any other configuration, but it might, especially if it's installed on other versions of Puppy ... i don't think there's an easy way around this ... i suppose one way to do it would be to have my package install my own background, which would at least be consistent

there may be no easy solution ... Pizzasgood did suggest a standard background name, which would probably be a symlink ... that might make things easier, in future versions of Puppy

i think support for visually-impaired individuals (and also for people whose language is not English) is a good thing ... this is why i put some themes in my Icewm package with large fonts
