I think I'll have a go at inkscapelite.

Edit
First attempt to compile Inkscapelite failed. Will try again later.
I compiled Inkscapelite in sap6 on RP. Here it is (539KB):

it depends what u want to do with them:

- if u want to play with hardware add-ons (programm them, etc. ) and have maybe not quick desktop (but i hope when we will have drivers for GPU it will give more power for X) u will choose Pi
- if u want a tiny player with Android or quicker desktop (after u install 'normal' Linux) u will choose this mini player

i myself have tv that play most of the mini video formats so i choose Pi

OK finally.
Screenshot enclosed.
Using Chromium browser (not the latest with integrated Flash but it loads in 3 seconds on the 3rd load)

It took me a while to load onto SD
and I think it best to reboot the computer
before using DD
- had problems in the past. Tried twice after restarting xwindows
waited and waited - then did a reboot
Third time it took aprox 5 minutes to DD to SD card.

One very nice feature is having the traditional setup Puppy where it asks for keyboard, do you want firewall, locales etc

Having to use mouse to move about on screen
but this is Puppi SAP alpha1 and it runs on an ARM CPU and is built by Barry. Me like.

Woof Woof! :)

Lobster,

Screen casting does work on sap6 using qemu. I'll attach the result, it's a real gz file so you have to gunzip it from the commandline.

Here's a basic recipe for ffmpeg, oh, you need libusb-1.0 from debian PPM too...

Code: Select all

ffmpeg -f x11grab -s vga -r 25 -i :0.0 ~/myvid.avi
I tried ogv but no go. There are options to tune the size, I'll look into that later when I get the real Pi  Once I get it sorted I'll consult with shinobar to see what is the best approach for his ffconvert program which now has added screen casting.

I unzipped it within Xfe, using the GUI, and it worked just fine! :D

And the video played using GNOME MPlayer. 8)

Thanks Mick, will give that a go on rpi hardware. . .

One of the daughter boards the Rpi team are working on is a high resolution webcam (I hope they go with that and not a low res version - or maybe a choice)

It may be a little early to think about Project 'Tint'. This would be an early response to Project Glass (Google) - the developer kits for pre order project glass now are $1500 for next year delivery and first consumer products in 2014.
Men in sheds or the US equivalent, guys in garages . . . they change the world.

What fun

Confirmed working on genuine raspberry hardware (accept no substitutes) :)
:D
it is the 'user space programming library' that is required from the main Debian library, just as Mick suggested

I have got to say, and of course I am probably biased, but I think that this pup is shaping up as the simplest and most complete out-of-the-box experience for newcomers to the RP.

In a couple of days, we should have a new compile of puppi. For those with SD cards at the ready . . . Expect Debian Wheezy code base and alpha1 quality.

You can now order as many Pi's as you want
http://www.raspberrypi.org/archives/1588

A 5 mega pixel camera 'Gert' daughter board will be available in coming months. I wish it had been 14 mega pixel but 5 is decent enough . . . Expect other fun stuff . . .

The smarter the dog.
The better the tricks.

Guys yesterday we had two releases of Debian Puppi.
check 19 Jul 2012 entry :D
http://puppylinux.org/wikka/PuppiNews

Sadly I had difficulties with dd and was only able to play a little with Micks first alpha using ARM woof Debian wheezy code.
I got real recognizable sound - oh yeah 8)
and it seems that Barry will producing a Wheezy woof build too . . .
http://bkhome.org/blog/?viewDetailed=02912 :)

Some very interesting things are emerging.
Wot browser? We need testers and recommendations. So far I have been happiest with Chrome and Iceape (A Debian version of Seamonkey)
Because we now have a ppm other browsers can be tried. So some experiments welcome.
Mick has made the point that Midori only seems stable under Slack build. Could be.

The difficulties with dd amaze me. I use this from Slacko (5.3.3.2) and am tempted to write a utility program but frankly testing might cause more writes to my SD card than it can take.
Is it just me or it a surprisingly flaky technology, why is it so less reliable than USB keydrives?

When Puppi joins the space program
http://www.raspberrypi.org/archives/1620 and other amazing projects we should find some further innovations.

We have the builders in at the moment.
That is mostly me in green overalls. Guttering fixed. Outside 'Dunny' concreting continues . . .
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunny
Well . . . OK no sheep skull and it flushes . . .
I rather like that skull image . . . m m m I have some deer antlers I might hang on the outside loo (english slang - originally from the French)

Puppi so far . . .
We are still in Puppi alpha but the builds are progressively more complete. We will become more functional and the speed and optimisation will come. I am working on a promotional video and was delighted when database code could be just moved and work on SAP alpha 4.

There's interesting info about VLC player on this page

The current beta doesn't work for Arm v6 --> that means Raspberry
The beta release published to the Google Play Store today is only
compatible with ARM systems that use the ARMv7 architecture set and
support the NEON instruction set. That means that there are several
devices — mostly those released before the Samsung Galaxy S in late
2010 — that cannot run the current beta. The major exception here is the
Nvidia Tegra platform. Nvidia’s Tegra 2 (which is a popular choice for
many Android device makers) cannot run this beta because it lacks the
NEON instruction set.

Many low end devices (as well as high end devices from 2009) use ARM
chips that utilize ARM core designs that are referred to as the ARMv6
architecture family. The ARM11 family of chips utilized this architecture.
When ARM Holdings created the new Cortex series of ARM cores, it
developed a new ARM architecture called ARMv7. ARMv6 and ARMv7 are
incompatible, as ARM made different design choices for the architectures.

..But it will have an arm v6 version soon
Within the next few days, a version of VLC that does not depend
on NEON will become available on the Play Store, as well as a version for
ARMv6 processors.
