I compiled and made a sfs file of vlc-2.0.0.
I tested it in the new racy-5.2.2.7 beta on a pc with a nvidia
graphics card and a netbook with ati hd4200 graphics.

The pc with the nvidia card needed at least the nouveau driver
installed, it works fine with the proprietary nvidia driver too.
The netbook with the ati hd4200 worked fine with the vesa driver or
the proprietary ati driver.

The vlc-2.0.0-i686-racy.sfs file also has the vlc_NLS-2.0.0-i686.pet
and the qt-everywhere-opensource-src-4.8.0-i686.pet included in it.

This new 2.0.0 version has support for dvb but I haven't tested that.

It should work in recent racy and wary releases.

EDIT: the vlc sfs also works in the new Slacko beta but if are using
qt-473 in slacko the qt-480 in the vlc sfs will clobber it and the
programs in slacko that used qt-473 won't work any longer.

EDIT: The dvb support isn't working.

I just tested it in slacko 531 and it works fine, the same caution would apply regarding qt-480 as I gave in the first post of this thread.

I'm not familiar with the mozilla plugin.

I think it's supposed to come with the Vlc install. Though I haven't used 2.0 yet so I can't be certain about whether it comes with any plugins.

I haven't installed any qt apps yet so I don't even have QT installed.

I'll make a backup of my puppy save file in case something does occur.

Ok it works just fine. I did experience some slowdown upon mounting the SFS. I saved the SFS outside the save file and loaded it.

I found this article about VLC2.0. It's for Ubuntu but it does in fact mention the existence of the 2.0 plugin. So I am wondering where to find it. If it's just a .so file, then I could simply copy and paste it into the mozilla plugins folder and then disable gecko-mediaplayer.

On first testing VLC 2.0 sfs seems to be working with Lucid. It is necessary to install the Xorg_High-1.1 pet to provide mesa glx video, or, alternatively, to install one of the proprietary ATI or Nivida drivers. If one has an Nvidia card it is probably necessary to install one of the proprietary drivers.

I configured racy bootmanager for load at bootup the vlc ( from usb ) but I can't find it in none menu.
There is a folder vlc 2.0.0 in the programs folder but inside the subfolder bin there is nothing.
What's wrong?
