Kernel sources link is in the first post of this thread.
D/L new iso and booted to desktop.
Sound works, internet auto connected.

Remastered using Rerwin's changes mentioned above. These changes work great. No problems to report at this point. Off to do full install to ext4 hard drive partition. Will report back later on results

Thank your majorfoo. The initial reports by you sounds encouraging. Remastering seems to behave with rerwin`s scripts. I am sure he is delighted to read your feedback.

I installed exprimo to a 4gb flash drive.
Installed devx,kernelsourcesfs,and NVIDIA-Linux-x86-304.22.run
I installed a few pets.
Did you know that VLC is up to version 2.0.3?
I'm using a vlc that I made in racy, works good in Exprimo too.
5.X.3.4.2.9 is working well so far.

Hi pemasu,

I'm really sorry to have to do this, but I'm sure you want to know.
The Broadcom 43 issues which were occurring with the earlier versions prior to 5.X.3.4.2.8 have regressed in 5.X.3.4.2.9.

I have no wifi and shutdown/reboot fails. This error occurs whether attempting to create a save file or not.

The results of pmodemdiag is attached.

Terry H. Thank you of your valuable report. Something is definitively wrong with my build concerning broadcom detection. But it will be fixed. I reported to rerwin about your feedback. It might be that I have missed some crucial file or then the logistics still need polishing.

Experiment 7 by rerwin has been included. All previous broadcom detection stuff has been removed. That is not the problem. The problem needs investigation. There is error in logistic or I have missed something.

My HP550 laptop with b43 wifi is working fine with 5.x.3.4.2.9 - the wl driver is being loaded and used as expected - frisbee creates a wifi connection AOK which survives a reboot - but my b43 is a reasonably well behaved one that doesn't need a fallback from wl to the b43 driver..........

Posting from 5.x.3.4.2.9 now...

TerryH's wifi is trying to use b43 driver but the following error messages are in "messages" in his pmodemdiag:
Aug 6 00:59:16 puppypc13700 user.err kernel: [ 26.302335] b43-phy0 ERROR: Firmware file "b43/ucode5.fw" not found
Aug 6 00:59:16 puppypc13700 user.err kernel: [ 26.302338] b43-phy0 ERROR: Firmware file "b43-open/ucode5.fw" not found
suggest the necessary firmware is not being found.....even though ucode5.fw is in /lib/firmware/b43
(b43-open does not exist?)

However, if I blacklist wl and reboot, the firmware for my b43 (ucode13.fw) IS loaded and the b43 driver works fine:
[ 27.473373] b43-phy0: Loading firmware version 666.2 (2011-02-23 01:15:07)
Cheers

Upgraded from 5.X.3.4.2.8 to 5.X.3.4.2.9 today. I booted from CD, left the old save file where it was (on a USB flash), which was updated to .9 at boot.

There were some problems:
- Frisbee did not want to go wireless, eth0 was OK.
- Pfind could not find any files from root and froze at some point. Had to
close/kill it.

I tried to send a detailed attachment, but for some reason that doesn't work for me.

I did not investigate further. A bit desperate, I booted from the old .8 CD and voila, everything works like before.

Could the trouble have to do with the old save file?

Anyway, I'm working on a GPS navigation program that I want to have up and running in two weeks from now. So far it works well on .8, so I stick with it for now.

Just wanted to let you know.

As always. When you have problem when using old savefile. Test with puppy pfix=ram (cd usage) or pfix=ram (frugal installation) booting to ensure that the problems are not caused by using older savefile. I have upgraded several applications, including dhcpcd and wpa_supplicant which might affect to the wireless connection if you use old savefile.

It might help if you remove...in Frisbee... the profile of wireless you have used and create it again. Not sure of course. I dont ever use older savefile. I just start to use the new version and create savefile on it again.

pfile error messages

#965 Post by rerwin »

pemasu, zigbert,
While investigating the b43 issue, using pfind 5.01, I searched for 'ssb.ko' and found nothing, even though the file is actually in /lib/modules/3.4.2-dpup/initrd/kernel/drivers/ssb/. In 5X3428 (with earlier pfind) the file was found. xerrs.log has theis:

Code: Select all

/usr/local/pfind/pfind: line 591: /usr/local/pfilesearch/locales: No such file or directory
/usr/local/pfind/pfind: line 603: /usr/share/locale/en/LC_MESSAGES/pfilesearch: No such file or directory
/usr/local/pfind/func: line 4: /tmp/pfind-TREE8320: No such file or directory
/usr/local/pfind/func: line 4: /tmp/pfind-TREE8320: No such file or directory
/usr/local/pfind/func: line 4: /tmp/pfind-TREE8320: No such file or directory
/usr/local/pfind/func: line 4: /tmp/pfind-TREE8320: No such file or directory
/usr/local/pfind/func: line 4: /tmp/pfind-TREE8320: No such file or directory
/usr/local/pfind/func: line 4: /tmp/pfind-TREE8320: No such file or directory
/usr/local/pfind/func: line 4: /tmp/pfind-TREE8320: No such file or directory

cat: /tmp/pfind-CHK_LIST8320: No such file or directory
cat: /tmp/pfind-CHK_ADV8320: No such file or directory
cat: /tmp/pfind-treeitems8320: No such file or directory
/usr/local/pfind/func: line 4: /tmp/pfind-TREE8320: No such file or directory
/usr/local/pfilesearch/func: line 61: [: =: unary operator expected
Later, in attaempts to get the pfilesearch version number with the command, pfilesearch -versions (and variation of that), the log added an excessive number of this message:

Code: Select all

cat: /root/.pfilesearch/tmp/pfilesearch-finish: No such file or directory
144 in all. A lot of distress calls.
Richard
