Live pfix=ram on a newer quad-core. Sound and internet working on initial boot but got the infamous "monitor out of range" message again. Xorgwizard took care of that.

5.X328 frugal install ext4 hdd pfix=ram on dual p6100 hp. broadcom wifi driver auto-detected by frisbee and connection made without issue.

same bad experience as with 5x327.

after choosing lang. then booted straight up the desktop and my usb logitech mouse was not recognized.

reran quickset up first run. clicked on dead mouse button following steps did not recognize the mouse.

ran mouse wizard still did not work.

had to log out then ran xorgwizard to change resolution.

Pemasu

without usb mouse support will not be using or testing these.

do you have any idea how to get usb mouse working?

-----------

odd thing moving the usb plugin to another port got the mouse working.

wonder why it worked in other puppies in the prior port?

anyway, flashplayer auto downloaded, ppm updated, sound, vidio via gnome mplayer all works.

pemasu
anything you looking for in particular?

Just upgraded the power supply in this old dual-core so 5.X.3.2.8 live pfix=ram again. I always generally use a ps/2 mouse and keyboard but for this test I'm using usb models. Both the usb keyboard and mouse are working no problem.Logitech usb mouse and generic no-name usb keyboard.

-OHCI Host Controller-
USB Keyboard
USB-PS/2 Optical Mouse
-EHCI Host Controller-

Sound and internet good on boot, booted to a shrunken 1400x1050 screen on boot...used xorgwizard to get desired 1440x900.

Hi Pemasu !
Found problems (5X 3.2.7 on Usb stick ) with Pburn --- mounting-unmounting Dvd drive not possible.
When putting in Dvd R-W (with content ) looking into it with pmount not possible ,Pmount says it is mounted but it is not possible to see its content . Also cannot unmount it.Manually i can eject Dvd.
It is possible to burn onto disk an iso or data .But one cant see whats burnt to it .
Tried the same with exprimo 5X13 (single core version ) everythings works fine ).
Another issue ... shutdown does not save .
Did not care for it up till now because for saving i used " savetoflash " button .
I must say i used my old savefile from older versions maybe this could interfere with 5X3.2.7 somehow .
But i dont know .
Maybe somebody else will also have a look on this issue .
Greetings from germany !

Thanks guys again of fast testing.

This kernel is not PAE kernel. There is Slacko....Racy...for PAE enthusiathics. My main interest now is to create as generic recent kernel with good wireless support. I have updated and added several missing firmwares. I have also enabled every wireless module I was able to find...including all staging drivers...even ath6kl...though that firmware is not included. I believe there wont be much requests for that driver.

I am interested in hardware detection and especially usb devices detection and also bossible bugs generated by using latest woof. Logitech seems to be delicate usb hw. It warms me that it is detected now....about right.

Nouveau driver has been included...and woof implemented the new nouveau_unload script to disable it when needed....so that nv can be used.

First bug found is with pmount. If you open the preferences tab in pmount and tick the box: tick the box use mut....pmount shows the drives for me okay...hdd, usb and dvd.

I am not sure yet what causes that the default usage does not show optical drives.

About ppm. It might have problems. I wanted to test the woof version...and after saving the sessions...there can be problems...but I wanted to get straight feedback. It works for me with usb hdd frugal installation and installed pets are available after reboot.
The reason for the test is that I have now aus3-util in use which I have compiled.

When you test the new release...posting bugs found when you use previous savefile. I usually mostly ignore them. I cant reproduce the problem...if something does not work...when it works for me...I cant much debug the previous savefile generated problem when the version has changed.
Previous savefile works or then not.

Hi pemasu !
I "ticked the box mute " in pmount preferences as you said .... problem is gone .......
Never looked into pmount- preferences before ( to my shame did not even know that it existed) one should do that .
OK
But " no save at shutdown " still remains ( maybe just only for me ) .
I will try 5X3.2.8 during the day maybe this problem will be gone . Will give you feedback.
I also will test it without my old savefile .
With use of an older savefile it could lead to problems which are not really part of the new version .It would clearly be to difficult for you , as a developer, to analyze so many options why things are not working in each and everyones special case.
Thank you .
Have a nice day .!

Dvd icon not showing when dvd has been insterted and pmount not showing sr0.
Probepart sees the dvd movie as udf not as iso9660...like in latest Racy.

Code: Select all

# probepart
/dev/sr0|udf|12518976
Probepart ...among several other scripts like pmount - drive_all - pup_event_frontend_d....is one of crucial scripts for filesystem detection.

Now...why probepart seest the dvd format correctly as udf and not as iso9660 as the puppy scripts wants...is the interesting point.

There has been at least one thread about samekind problem:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 0&start=15
I think that thread shows that there are several scripts behind correct detection and automated drive icon creation to the desktop in jwm and behind correct pmount functionality.

Cullprit seems to be that probepart udf detection instead iso9660.

Or...I am totally mislead...which happens often...lol.

Frugal install of 5.X.3.2.8.
usb logitech mouse was not recognized
I have the same problem with my logitech USB mouse and keyboard, after every boot.
Work-around: unplug USB device and plug it in again.

Hi pemasu !
Do testing with 3.2.8 now on Usb stick
Made a new savefile . It does not work with my old savefile .
What i posted above is irrelevant .
Save at shutdown appears .
Pburn shows my dvd content i have to mount sr0 before .
But maybe this is the normal procedure .
Just want to report
See you later

backi. Udf filesystem support is working okay. The problem is that pmount does not support udf filesystem detection. It wants that dvd udf filesystem is detected as iso9660 and this does not happen in 5.X.3.2.8 build
When you get the sr0 visible whatever way the mounting has no problems. My kernel supports udf. I have the cd/dvd filesystem supprort ticked in kernel just like in Barry`s kernels.
It is the script framework which does not handle udf filesystem correctly.
Maybe update is needed for udf filesystem.

Racy sees dvd movie sr0 as iso9660 and pmount shows it correctly and sr0 dvd icon appears to the desktop automatically.
Something is different in my 3.2.8 kernel build. Udf has been seen as udf. Puppy does not like it at all.

Gyro. Thanks for your feedback about logitech usb devices.
All the core usb drivers are compiled in. Xhci - uhci - ohci -ehci like all recent kernels have been configured...I should have usb section about same as Barry`s kernels.
Something with usb logitech has been problematic with 3.2.X kernels....also in Slacko experiments.
But good to know that there is workaround which is fairly simple....until the real reason is found.

Hi pemasu !
Detected some strange effect .
I have 6 partitions on my HDisk .2 ntfs and 4 ext3 .
Using DPUP EXPRIMO 5X3.2.8 on Usb Stick .
Pmount is not able to mount two of the ext3 .
Tried something .. used startmount to automount this two partitions automaticallly at start up .
They are mounted at startup .
After unmounting it with pmount (which works ) cannot mount them with pmount again .Only with Rox
After new bootup they are automatically automounted by startmount .
OK i have to describe it further.
after start, this two partitions automounted are seen as mounted in pmount .
Then looking with Roxfiler after this partitions they are marked as mountable. clicking on them in Rox they mount and they open and show content.

Now mounting -unmounting them with rox works well .
But after unmountig the partition with pmount i am not able to mount it with pmount again only with Rox.
This only happens with these two partitions mentioned above .
Maybe this happens because they are on a extended partition .
Otherwise testing this with Macpup or any other DpupEXPrimo
they are mountable with pmount.

Lines/Rectangles have returned to dialog boxes

#58 Post by mikeslr »

Hi Pemasu,

With one exception 3.2.7 kernel Exprimo works fine on my system. The exception is, as you've noted in the past, a driver would have to be compiled for its Ati Radeon 3100 graphics. The obscuring lines/rectangles have returned to vex input into some dialog boxes. The problem did not occur with the 3.1.10 kernel.

Hi

Tested again mounting my partirtions with dpupEXPrimo 5X3.2.8 from a live cd .
All partitions are mountable with pmount .
So i am not expecting an explaination for the issues i mentioned above .
Will further have a look on it on my own .

(and 20 minutes later )
So i deleted my formerly made savefile on Usb stick , created a new one and ......god only knows
problems with partition mounting .... wooooshhh ..... they are gone .
Testing goes on further...

Yep. 5.X.3.2.8 seems to be optical drive special edition. I got 2 optical drives also. I just dont know where the other one is. :D
Anyway. Console fonts are broken for foreing languages...like me. When I logout to console state...I dont have fonts at all. Nice to type blindly. Barry posted about it today in his blog.
I will wait for the confirmed fix and then I will build next version. I hope other problems will have somehow solution by then.

Maybe update is needed for udf filesystem.
I know nothing of kernels, etc, but I came across the same problem a few months ago..
My 'solution' was also to update pmount, using guess_fstype:

Starts at around line 448:

Code: Select all

if [ "`echo -n "$EXIT" | grep 'DOMOUNT'`" != "" ];then
 DODEV="`echo -n "$EXIT" | cut -f 2 -d '_'`"
 DEVNAME="`echo -n "$DODEV" | cut -f 3 -d '/'`"
 #DOFS="`echo -n "$EXIT" | cut -f 3 -d '_'`"
DOFS="$(guess_fstype /dev/$DEVNAME)" #akita fix, now supports UDF (and more?)
I have no idea if this is a good idea or not, but mounting CDs and DVDs now works better.

sc0ttman. Thank you for sharing your tip. I think that I will check the problem with time. I am not even sure why Racy shows my chosen dvd movie right and why this build doesnt. I have had corrupt woof platforms before...there is localization bugs...so...brake is needed.
