Yeah. Distraction free texteditors has been queried in murga forum lately. Python just is not for me.

Qt-4.8.0 is for me....so....here is focuswriter compiled in dpup. It needs also qt from exprimo repo and libzip from squeeze-main repo.

I see you tried Live medai. Congrats! I've been a user forever. It works well, is portable, and DVDs offer fast boots.

Using a pristine 5X3421, I loaded the jre 1631 from the smokey01 site. I installed it.

Upon complettion, I opened a terminal and typed java -version.....NOTHING! And, there is no Menu JAVA tool either. There is a filesystem update, but pathing issues exist. Save-session reboot did not resolve access to this.

Maybe ???

Here to help.

I installed from PPM jre-1.6.31-dpup.pet
Java Control Panel appeared to the Menu > Desktop > Desktop Settings.

# java -version
java version "1.6.0_31"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_31-b04)
Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (build 20.6-b01, mixed mode)

Then I installed muCommander from PPM (java app) and it launched ok.

Hi pemasu !
Good to read you are healing after surgery. Wish you prompt 100 % recovery.

This latest pupplet kicks @$$ !
Full install on Fujitsy Siemens Esprimo (this machine was pre-built with Exprimo in mind), @ 3.0 GHz with 4 GB ram.
Runs beautifully. Great job !

I noticed since kernel 3.x.x there is a LOUD sound burst at start up (spooky).
I don't really mind, but my dog hates it. ;-)

gCAD3D on Exprimo

Hey Pemasu !
pemasu wrote:Hello from the afterlife of shoulder surgery. I had good luck. All the problems were fixed ! ...I cant much move my right upper extremity, but I can type !!!
Very happy to «hear» from you good news!
pemasu wrote:...Could you test it without other libjpeg* or cGAD3D installed...fresh pfix=ram ...
Yep ! thanks for that pet !
Done:
- had to install debian libgtkgl ; gCAD3D works but without image rendering;
- ones get a red surface with black interrogation mark in the middle - which is the image /usr/share/gcad3d/icons/NO_IMAGE32x32_24.bmp. This seems to be default superimposed for «painting» the geometrical 3D shape in case jpegturbo is not present
( - you may try to replace that image by any another one keeping the same name ...)
( for moving the image just keep either Ctrl or Shift or both keys pressed while moving the mouse cursor...)

Afterwards I installed the libjpeg-turbo from here
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... c44352d1e5
whose tree breakdown is
tree wrote:# tree libjpeg-turbo-1.2.0-i686
libjpeg-turbo-1.2.0-i686
|-- pet.specs
|-- usr
| |-- bin
| | |-- cjpeg
| | |-- djpeg
| | |-- jpegtran
| | |-- rdjpgcom
| | |-- tjbench
| | `-- wrjpgcom
| `-- lib

| |-- libjpeg.so.62.0.0
| `-- libturbojpeg.so
`-- var
`-- log
`-- packages
`-- libjpeg-turbo-1.2.0-i686
So get the image rendering (it shows a 3D landscape ...which image is in /root/gCAD3D/dat/sample_gis1.jpg )
pemasu wrote: EDIT. You will need to install from debian squeeze main repo one dependency: libgtkgl2.0-1
I wonder why using the original debian gCAD3D works here without installing libgtkgl2.0-1; whereas this pet needs it ??? what makes the difference ?
Cheers !

Has anyone managed to get VLC working yet as I haven't.

I used this version:
http://smokey01.com/pemasu/pet_packages ... 1-i686.pet

I also installed:
http://smokey01.com/pemasu/pet_packages ... -0.0.1.pet

and
http://smokey01.com/pemasu/pet_packages ... l-dpup.pet

VLC loads but hangs when I try to play a movie, in particular *.m4v

Mplayer won't play full screen and Gnome-Mplayer looks like the attached graphic when I try to play it in full screen.

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Charlie6. Thank you of the feedback. It seems to need those binaries also. Now that I know which file to use for testing I can confirm that. So....I have repackaged the pet. Test it again.
About libgtkgl2.0-1 dependency and the gcad3d. I used the latest .deb: http://www.gcad3d.org/download/gCAD3D-1 ... ux-x86.deb

And that opengl context support seems to be needed.
Prerequisites for the Linux-version: libc.2.4 or newer, gtk2, OpenGL/Mesa.
Installing xorg-high ie libgl1-mesa-dri does not solve the dependency. So...direct / indirect rendering support for graphics does not seem to solve it.

So....I am at loss how can you get it working without libgtkgl2.0-1

I update the pet in previous post and upload it here also.

Smokey01. I have faced your kind problem with other Puppies several times. You could try to change the video output in gnome-mplayer > edit > preferences > video output, gl - x11 - etc
Also try xorgwizard and choose your xorg driver which you should use. Xorg-high might not be loaded if you dont go through that exercise. Not sure of course. But the problem is with your graphics.
I have watched now several movies with latest dpup without problems. Somehow I have had time to do that since yesterday, lol.

About VLC. I cant say much about it. But it might be that Billtoo will scan this thread and see your post.

I decided to compile mplayer2 from latest git. I seems to work for me.
I uploaded it to the exprimo repo for testing.

I've never had much luck with mplayer no matter what distro I use. It may be hardware related but I have about 5 computers with similar results. VLC always works well as long as I can get it running in the first place.

I downloaded the big SFS today with umplayer, vlc, qt and spotify. Pretty big but all apps work.

I also included LibreOffice and a few other things to make a very fat exprimo-3421. I used woofy and it did a great job but I noticed there are a couple of bugs.

1. you can't change the name of the SFS file.

2. It doesn't let you set your default programs if you select yes.

With a lot of research and tinkering I have created a neat little desktop recorder. I have the ffmpeg script working well, now I just need to throw a little gtkdialog around it.

This is my command line:

Code: Select all

ffmpeg -f alsa -i hw:0 -isync -f x11grab -s `xdpyinfo | grep -i dimensions: | sed 's/[^0-9]*pixels.*(.*).*//' | sed 's/[^0-9x]*//'` -r 25 -i :0.0 -sameq smokey.mp4
I hope the pain relief is working.

Cheers

Hi smokey01,

I think you'll need the proprietary Nvidia driver installed as well but there is no pet that I know of for that so you'll need to compile the driver.

EDIT: I started with a new save file and installed everything that you did above + the proprietary Nvidia driver and vlc is working.
But if you have vlc working with the other sfs I'd stick with that :), it's probably not worth the effort to change it.

Smokey01. If you have nvidia graphics, then the mplayer2 should be compiled with vdpau support and include the needed libvdpau to the package. Mplayer2 works best with vdpau video output.
I could give it a go...if it is nvidia graphics you use.

And the proprietary nvidia driver suggest by Billtoo sounds valid also.

For nvidia graphics users....I compiled mplayer2 with vdpau support. This version needs the libvdpau1 to be installed from squeeze repo using PPM.
You can test with different video outputs with gnome-mplayer > edit > preferences > video output > vdpau.

Nvidia driver ie self compiled proprietary nvidia driver might be needed also to get the wanted performance:
Enabling VDPAU (modern nVidia cards only)
For a complete list of VDPAU capable hardware, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PureVideo# ... HD.29_GPUs . Ensure the nvidia driver is installed.

gCAD3D-1.80 running without libgtkgl

#435 Post by charlie6 »

Hi Pemasu, i found the explanation !
pemasu wrote:Charlie6. ...
So....I am at loss how can you get it working without libgtkgl2.0-1
in addition to my PM, i just went to get the explanation: here using the 1.80 version instead !
- here is still running gCAD3D-1.80-Linux-x86.deb tested on 5X3.4.2.1 on last friday ...gCAD3D-1.80-Linux-x86.deb does not need libgtkgl, and seems running nice without if.
- gCAD3D-1.82-Linux-x86.deb needs libgtkgl (as for version prior to 1.80);
reading at the gCAD3D changelog:
Log-file (neue Funktionen): gCAD3D_log.txt

Standardversion:
V.1.82 / 2012-04-04 Fehlerkorrekturen.
V.1.80 / 2012-01-20 CAD-Eingabemethoden verbessert, Debian-Installationspakete neu, Fehlerkorrekturen.
...
here might be some fix between verison 1.80 and 1.82.
So feeling better now ...! pfff !
Charlie

The FFConvert on Dpup Exprimo 5.X.3.4.2.1 also grabs X OOTB.

(Next screenshot is of v1.3 but no problem with v1.2.9 on the Dpup Exprimo 5.X.3.4.2.1)

This has been Shinobar`s speciality, but I thought to give these nvidia drivers a go:
http://smokey01.com/pemasu/pet_packages ... 2-dpup.pet
http://smokey01.com/pemasu/pet_packages ... 2-dpup.sfs

I used Shinobar`s previous nvidia sfs as template and just changed the kernel module which I compiled.

I cant test them because I dont have nvidia graphics. I did compile 302.17-k3.4.2-dpup kernel module also...if there is need for it.

Trying out the Debpup and so far I'm impressed. It's not even the final version. :)

It detected my older hardware and went into performance mode. Awesome!

I did have an odd sensor-detect error. Apparently alot of parts in my machine aren't compatible.
The module loader crashed.

...Anyway, I wish there were more programs to install.

I want to try the focuswriter.pet but I'm worried it will have that error where it freezes when opening or saving.
